Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Target's brand (as an employer) is badly damaged

Whether these thousands of layoffs are the right thing or not, what's certain is that Target is no longer an employer of choice. Only been here for 2 years, but family, friends and old coworkers used to ooo/ahh when I talked about Target. Now they smirk and talk about layoffs, security breaches and Amazon.

Not sure this can be repaired, but the constant drip of layoffs and new policies (vacation, for example) that make it cheaper to get rid of you don't help. It's a much smaller Walmart now. Potential employees beware.

Want to see reputation? Take a look at Targets Glassdoor ratings? And see how it has slid over the year. Compare it with any employer of your choice. It's pathetic!

I bailed out of TGT TTS 4 years ago. Best day of my life was my first day at my new job. I do feel bad for many of my friends I left behind, but a few are now eating a nice piece of Karma now.

The reputation is permanently damaged for me. Not only because of the personal shaft I received but the way former co-workers I care about have been (and continue to be) treated. Yep, lay-offs have to happen but the torment that people have had to go through is disgusting. Remember "The Best Company Ever"?? What a joke.....

Stay out of big retail. Target, Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon are all terrible to work for by reputation. If you are in a role like IT where you can switch get out of retail.

Plenty of desperate people, maybe. If one had similar job options, doubtful anyone would choose Target right now.

Gotta disagree, Anonymous145961. The employment brand matters big time if you want to attract quality people. True, there's always someone else who'd do your job. But a low quality company attracts low quality talent. Original poster is pretty much right, unfortunately.

The problem is that the changes they're claiming to make aren't really much of a change. For example, my fiancé works in web merchandising and the vp they just put in charge to dramatically change the place has been there his entire career. 30+ years! He's a big reason Target got in trouble and he's going to save the day? Sad. I wouldn't work there anymore.

Yep. I feel the same way. I used to be much prouder to say I worked in Target Technology. Now people snicker about the breach at me.
