Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Mixed feelings on being let go

I was let go today and getting mixed feelings on the impact. Quickly realized some friends suddenly stopped speaking and while some suddenly started coming for help.

It was pretty clear to me that this was NOT based on any business reasons while purely hand picking by some KMG / Directors. Ours was a lean team and 90% engineers.I saw teams where excessive leadership roles are there with less engineers are still there with NO impact . I have no regrets or bad feelings for Target as this can happen anywhere in any company but with no compensation while here we were at least compensated financially for which i am grateful for Target . I hope to bounce back in another company . Maybe this is a "kick start" for me ! Thanks to all those who helped and best of luck Target. Only thing i feel bad is that perception really mattered than performance( i got great scores but did not help). This mindset will not help Target and objectivity has to come back. Handpicking some one just because he/she questions status-q is not right .

Some positions are eliminated to create way for new people . I am sure there is a promo in my old team in next 1-2 months for LMG. SAP/Legacy finance had more LMG bandwidth but no impact is a testimony to the fact this is NOT based on reducing layers but eliminate whom they don't like. I saw scrum certified Managers being let go yesterday while org needs such people. World is never fair but i was not happy about those managers being let go.

Anonymous145617: talk if you know the facts. LMG is right, there are teams which are manager heavy and yet they were not touched. check out corporate finance. SAP side of world has too many managers who are highly paid. yet the axe fell on the legacy/non sap side.

Some DMG/KMG have skillfully used this occasion to carve out power for themselves by keeping followers rather than leaders.

Managers with two or three direct reports stayed managers with 8 to 15 gone. This is getting more ignorant by the day. Who in the world made these decisions?

These decisions are being made by FINANCE, not your manager. It is solely based on how much money can the company save. I was laid off during the 2008 recession and the HR EVP and I talked. She told me that these decisions were all made by Finance.
