Thread regarding Affinia Group layoffs

Affinia Group- Get your act together

I am sadly no longer employed at HQ.

I loved the place, I worshiped the CEO. I loved my job. I cannot say enough good things about the CEO. I suggested so many improvements people became upset at me for causing more work. I am sure someone else stole my good deeds and improvements or as discussed below but the place does not want the improvements for lack of headcount. I found out I was portrayed as the nicest guy they have ever met. I trained people and told the truth, as much as my words may have hurt people at times. I was pulled aside and told not to offer improvements or people will feel you’re getting into their business. Shut your mouth and do your job was the advice.

I guess nice guys finish last when you have jalousie people sniping at you.

Cons

Some not all employees keep drama around and spread lies and try to get people fired if you work better than they do and have more than they have. In other cases, the middle management is covering their ass with lies. The above 55 ones are the most cunning and they use their friends leverage to snipe people. HR is the worst burned out don’t give a shit; go through the motions group I have encountered. The entire HQ is understaffed and burned out.

I had one co-worker who was so loud I could hear the lies she said about me in the office. She also resented anyone coming into her group in fear of being let go. A very terrible bully of an old lady but even her mangers kept their mouths closed when she sniped.

Advice to Management

Get the right people out the door not the ones that want to work and help others. CEO, do you have a list of the free over time people are putting in? They all say if you have a problem let them know but that’s a lie, once u let them know something is going on, they are all against u and can't wait for u to be fired. The CEO has a tendency to re-word all improvements as he sees them negatives, then attacking back because he does not have time or possibly the desire to massage into a win win scenario.

More employment would promote work life balance. More employment would allow the CEO to message improvements. More employment would calm down the worries of not being able to retire. More employment would bring back the family atmosphere and help improve the unhealthy business conditions (less mistakes made and more time to concentrate instead of react).

You are an incredibly sharp individual and unknowingly made a few people high up look really embarrassed because they did not believe rates were a big deal along with other information you brought to the table. In your email you send out poking fun at never seeing a system that did not have the ability to use rates, Made everyone look like idiots when it was there job to understand what you understood. You should have kept your mouth shut. The Second Quarter results (Aug) we used your knowledge and mentioned effect of rates on cash (you hinted or boasted in your email). They had a few meetings attempting to understand if it was important or not and then determined you were correct. This lesson continues to show us to sit back and let others make decisions for everyone as normal. Keep your chin up and know you did an outstanding job.

This company will use new outsider hires. For example, we boosted our head count in our IT department one year because we required new technology. After the upgrade and knowledge transfer was completed we eliminated the majority of the department and back-filled cheap labor. This happen throughout the entire operation (Knowledge transfer then eliminates). If you are thinking about -just run away and set your standards higher.

One trap of many this company fell into: Management hired more protected class individuals than unprotected class individuals (AKA woman). Underpaid but, yes much more difficult to move on. Price savings might look good on paper but what about when retirement age comes around. Male managers are not going to jeopardize their jobs using motivation tactics on the protected class. An unexperienced Chief Financial officer view of numbers does not take into account the above and it does not take into account how to grow the company effectively. It is time to replace upper management, followed by second line management, followed by employee re-stock. Let us not forget the loyal employees who are doing an outstanding job and who love working here. It will be interesting to watch Mann+Hummel measures to snap this company back in shape.

Mathew 19:26

And looking at them Jesus said to them, with these people this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Let us re-group, most irrational decisions seen by a company are a result of a chief financial officer who only understands numbers but does not have the cognitive ability to apply common sense to external and internal market conditions and demands (common sense management). A young Chief Financial officer does not have this experience in making clear decisions and the end result is selling the company.

Management sold their soul to the Devil. Wait, they have no soul.

Depends heavily on temps or (false) contract to hire with low pay and no benefits.

Executive management is not qualified for their respective positions?

They lack mentoring in preparation for their assignments and experience in other companies

Which is evident in their lack of vision and immaturity in execution?

Management makes strange decisions then looks back and says too bad we made that (wrong) decision but we will strongly stand behind it. Young and dumb or aging ego talking??

The CEO states he gives speeches to new employees about getting along with everyone on the team but unbenounced (unknowingly,) to him, he has just sent a message to the current of age crew overhearing this message they can intervene with jealousy and try to undermine the CEO by bullying any new employees about change or other bullshit they can come up with . If the current team can find a way to manipulate the new employee arrivals words into satins words they can eliminate new employees. This is simply done by rumor or rewording new employee’s words against current management. The CEO is misled into believing thoughts of senior employees and management who do not want change (eliminate the younger employees!). The tail is wagging the dog. The CEO does not have a clue or is only following the dog’s tail wag to keep his salary. CEO management must strong arm the wagging tail. The CEO must be accountable for this action. Younger new employees must prevail in order to breathe new life into this poor profitable retirement company. Will the new company strangle hold this company into profitability is unseen.

Same here.- I was told to my face, “who was I to come in and attempt to make improvements when things have worked just as well without me present”. Then the old time word of mouth smear campaign is begun. Arrogant and dumb is how the place is run and even some high up managers are trying to keep the stone age so they do not lose their jobs.

Cons

The company is full of people waiting to retire. The attitude of the high ups is positives but those in middle management want to do nothing but lay in cruse control as much as possible. Good ideas are shot down fast, young folks are pressured to keep quiet and not make rifts, and the learning atmosphere is non-existent. Special treatment is bountiful. Temps are abused heavily and hope of becoming full-time is non-existent. Many other reviews say they are stuck in the 80's and I could not agree more.

I could not help to comment. Based on the widgets example from below, should not the CEO have been replaced long time ago with his need to sell the company? Ironically, the company manipulates their own standards on favoritism.

Simply put, they wanted to test how many widgets you could produce over the others.

In the mean time they would suck as much knowledge from you as they could to make themselves look smart. They simply eliminated you finding price savings between your head and an internal head count. This is called money desperation. When they were sold, the new company told them not to extend any permanent offers to anyone. They used you for your knowledge and discarded you (a very old school underhanded trick). Not an ethical or moral company as I read their website. Move on to better pastures. The current pasture is bankrupt old stock. This would be a good lesson to anyone considering working there. My two cents

Sorry to hear it. How long were you there? Standard training in any company lasts anywhere from six months to a year depending on the amount of work placed on the plate to digest. If you were there less, they are playing games with you. Why would they hire anyone if they were going to be sold?

I suspect the place had resisted change before you walked in. The idiocracy is why they were sold. Too bad they ran people up the flag pole (out the door) or shut them up behind the CEO’s back. The new company will eventually eliminate all the employees and those employees will find out what change really is.

I commend your spirit, it sounds like you helped the company by pointing out improvements and they were pissed off because you created more work. Too bad the CEO is not reading this now. You followed the CEO expectations but your good deeds were blocked by the disgruntled employee majority . You do not want to work there with those limitations unless you are reporting directly to the CEO or live next door to him. Life is a journey of lessons.
