Many Intel hires with no interviews

When I was hired by Intel 8 years ago for a senior eng position, I had to go through an all day technical interview with 10 people. But now I see many new hires who join without many or any interviews just because they are buddies with the hiring manager.

This is not new. It's been going on for years. Especially with a few members of MCM. It is getting worse and its filtering down to many levels. In my group, a role opened due to a person taking a role in a different group. The day they announced this person was leaving they announced the backfill. No req was opened. No interviews were done. Not a shock but will only get worse especially when managers are told to hit numbers for diversity. As soon as a diverse candidate is found to be looking they will be given the job. Guidelines are no longer followed. Due diligence is not a concern. If you are buddies with them, or if you are the right color, or have the right genitalia you are good to go. No interviews required.

This is one of the reasons why we have troubles today. Low quality engineering staff keeps joining, well paid high quality staff is leaving. H1B program does not help here.
