Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

how about the tts VPs

There has been a lot discussion about KMGs and Target India vs Mpls. I think we are forgetting the most significant contributors to this mess - the VPs. Most of the VPs were the same ones that used to praise BTTs, push BA hiring and talk about general athletes as saviors for us. Additionally, lets look at their accomplishments

POS and MyDevice stability is terrible and Eclipse was a spectacular failure - the stores portfolio VP (and he got promoted during this) is still here

No significant work has been delivered in merch and supply chain for the last 5 years (except store pickup) and Cognizant outsource and Promotions planning (2 times) were spectacular failures - the merch, supply chain VP (who was promoted through this), is still here

The solution delivery org (anyone remember that?) was a spectacular failure. one of the 3 authors of that got promoted during that. She is till here.

I see a pattern of incompetence rewarded at that level. Does anyone else see that?

Target.com is unstable, convoluted and unreliable. Whether I'm on the website or using the app, both regularly have issues or simply crash altogether. As a previous post stated, .com even has troubles being 1) in stock and 2) even carry the merchandise I want/need. I tried to setup subscriptions to buy some necessities. Last month, I got an email from .com simply saying "We can't make this delivery. We hope to do better next time." And the order was just cancelled. It was for toilet paper. Toilet paper. What? It doesn't get any more basic than that.

Target keeps posturing that they compete with Amazon, posting pointless news clipping in the hallways or on that joke email we all get every day. I've been at Target over 10 years now, and noticed an honestly negative change in the impression .com and stores has made on my friends and family over the years. Back in Ulrich's day, this was a great company to work for and shop at. Now, I'm not so sure. And that pretty much sums up the direction we are getting from leadership...we're not sure. Well I guess you'll try to do better next time, huh? In the meantime, I suppose I'll just be sitting at my desk, watching YouTube, waiting for some clear direction whether this once decent (but certainly not the best company ever) place figures out where we're going. And I'll just help myself to some tp while I'm at it, cuz obviously I can't get that from Target.com.

Target.com may be the 42nd most accessed site in the US (per 143887)......but do those visits translate to sales. Whenever I go on-line to purchase something, Target is usually one of the most expensive sites (if they even carry the product, which they usually don't)......And this higher price is even after my employee discount and Target credit card discount. Unless we can address that problem, target.com is a joke. I also notice that you can rarely get the top of the line of anything. It's always the sort-of-ok, mid rated shit. Sad to say, Amazon is always where I go for research, and often where I go for purchase. Target.com is no better than Sears from what I've seen.

Target.com isn't exactly a joke, but let's be real - If your familiar with the actual foot traffic in TGT buildings each month, the numbers on unique visits on Target.com are hardly impressive.

Target.com is a joke because it is too many things to nobody. Pull it up right now, first thing you see is fritos, doritos and tide pods.... Perfect!

Why do you think Target.com is a joke? Did you ever look at the traffic numbers of Target.com.. This is the 42nd most access website in the United States and 199th most accessed site world wide. Just stop bragging about things on this site without understanding facts...

Thank you 143724 for sharing that background and for filling in the blanks on the POS issue. As a customer I'm aware of the POS issues but since I don't work close to store operations I wasn't aware of how widespread the problem is. It's good to hear that senior management is listening to this feedback but overreacting and disrupting functions/systems that are not at fault or are working well could be fatal to TGT. I hope cool heads prevail and next week's transformation isn't a misdirected reaction.

I've learned over time at target that effort is more valued than results. Don't be surprised who gets promoted or rewarded for that reason.

Not to mention failure of Red Rock. The people who led to failure still exist in target.

Sorry last sentence of my post should read:

Best to you guys, but from the Business side of Target a meaningful change is needed.

I've got 25+ years with Target, none of it in TTS or what we called IS then IT then TTS. I've worked directly with some of these VP's and the ones they replaced and I can tell you that the issue with TTS unfortunately is probably bigger than any position. For years TTS has done "its own thing." Most really didn't understand "it" and the TTS teams did a pretty good job of techno speaking when challenged, so it was seen as a science and separate from the actual Business of Target. It was seen as necessary and important and with the exception of Jerry Storch never really had a senior level leader who really challenged the organization until the Data Breach. The reason why the problem is bigger, is that our new CEO really see's TTS as a reason for some of Target's woes and it has become a focus, one of which he will be personally accountable for. So then all this talk of POS stability is a real issue and has become the TTS political hot button. Every time BC is in the stores he's hearing it. I've been there and seen it. POS is down a lot, but its gotten to the point of it become the common joke on visits. It may seem trivial to TTS folks, but the POS system is seen by most as a failure of the entire organization and a symptom of a much larger issue that is seen as incompetence and the apparent lack of accountability and ownership of TTS itself. So, it is commonly know and communicated that TTS is going to radically be changed to "deliver results for the business of Target." In other words stand bye, this change that's coming isn't going to be lip service like the post Data Breach. This is going to be systemic and radical. Best to you guys, but from the Business side of Target a manful change is needed.

What gets me is that they seem to be saying things that are completely opposite to what they were 1.5 years back...with as much conviction and as much passion. Do they have any original thoughts? I know 2 out of the 3 have no back ground in technology. Maybe the 3rd does. In any case, you can't expect the organization to do radically different things while our failed VP layer continues to exist

I saw my entire team get outsourced to Cognizant. It took less than six months to FAIL. Fully and completely FAIL. Fail and require a complete 180' by leadership. The result, millions of dollars wasted, hundreds of team members dismissed, and Brett Craig - leader of this whole fiasco - promoted to VP????

I believe most of the VPs are simply that last resources standing as we fired almost all the previous VPs creating the void that these guys/gals filled. It was not based on their skills but someone had to that the seats. Guessing magic mike will work on that level over time. If he doesn't get feed up and leave first. The really is TTS has never had a track record of success if the 15 years I was there. Reason I recently moved on
