My cv has just been discarded without even a phone interview...i currently work for one of your competitors in exactly the same role I was applying for... I didn't expect to be hired of course, but being discarded at CV screening stage left me a bit puzzled...

Although racist conspiracies can be oh so much fun, here's the more likely reason:
Intel is huge and doesn't give a shit. Their hiring process is INCREDIBLY impersonal. They throw away a shit ton of resumes. Last spring, I applied to about 30 openings at intel, no responses. All online.
This fall, I ran into a few recruiters in person and got a referral from one of my friends who works there. Then I got their attention, and have had a whole bunch of interviews and multiple offers for presilicon validation. Once you get actual humans involved, things are more likely to go your way. Also, their starting salaries for new grads are garbage, btw.

I have applied through their job site multiple times and have never heard anything.
Two times I have been contacted on LinkedIn by an Intel recruiter both times I was invited for onsite interview and got an offer. Obviously their job database is some sort of black hole.
My suggestion is that you connect with some Intel recruiters on LinkedIn and send them your resume.
Let me guess..you are a white male... Intel is not interested in you unless you have the last name of : Redfeather, or Martinez, or some other minority. American companies enjoy the success and protection of the United States, but in the backrooms are indeed traitors to the United States by not hiring local graduates. They want cheap labor from other countries so the money earned by these individuals are sent back to their country...while Americans starve. Companies are leaches, only interested in making millions for the top. We need to tell them...oh you want to set up shop in these United States, under the protection, free agency and tax abatement's? Fine...you WILL hire Americans...or there is the border...LEAVE. There is NO other country in the world as creative and productive as Americans and America. .
OP here: yes... You don't hire from competitors?
