Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

This applies to Target layoffs as well...

From 1996 to 2006, a group of scientists went onsite at Boeing to study what happens when a company is inundated with layoffs. They wrote a book about the study -

"Turbulence: Boeing and the State of American Workers and Managers". They claim that laid-off employees were actually better off than the ones who stayed behind and struggled to stay relevant and visible, do the work of several employees and hold onto their jobs.

OP: So I read Turbulence several years ago, am from Seattle and many of my family worked there for decades. It's interesting that your take on turbulence was that the book was "a study of what happens when a company is inundated with layoffs." Layoffs were really a small part of the book Turbulence. Boeing was and is a Business that is in constant conflict with an extremely powerful union for its labor force - Machinists. And a professional organization for it's technical people - Speea. Boeing is forever in the process of negotiating a new contract with, or being put on strike by one of these organizations. The issues are always about money. Layoffs are part of the ebb and flow of Boeing and have been since its inception. Turbulence is really about the relationship between the employee and the employer historically and then the impact of Globalization on that relationship.

We are a maturing business. Limited growth ahead.

Just look at their competitors and realize how much further they are on their multi-channel digital journey and the loss of the Canada foot print and you realize growth is minimal at best.

I'll have to agree.. I just acceptd an offer, it would've probably took me ten years at Target to get there. You are much more appreciated outside of Target. Just saying. Don't be too harsh on yourself when you get RIFd..rest assured you'll be better of. Best of luck to all.
