Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Get rid of Useless departments (Hardware, Components, IT, Security)

These groups don't add enough value. Let the engineers design their own boards and select their own components, and let everyone deal with their computer problems and security.

No, but seriously, from when I was there, Corp IT was found to be grossly undermanned compared to other similar sized enterprises like ISPs. That's what the audits found supposedly.

Condolences to anybody who ends up on the black list though. IT customer service was made to disappear, it's no fun.

That's because if left to their own vices, the "engineers" try to be IT people and demand huge 2000+ user lab networks with no safeguards, DDoS themselves to death, and then complain that the IT infrastructure does not work.

If anything, Corp IT needs to be expanded to meet the growing needs of the business units they support. Due to the cutbacks-- most of the Corp IT people are having to wear a dozen hats or more over the course of each workday, while the "real engineers" are only responsible for their tiny little corner of the universe.

If you call an IT person and he/she seems lazy or impatient-- it's probably because they are tired of having to explain to some entitled turds how to login to their computers for the twentieth time that day or how to hook up a f***ing home router without DDoS'ing their neighbors,

That's because if left to their own vices, the "engineers" DDoS themselves on a weekly basis and could not find their way out of a paper bag without a textbook on how to do it.

F***ing IT security guys always keep getting in the way of engineers trying to do their jobs!

You have to be joking. On a daily basis-- I have to deal with QCT engineers who have all the deductive reasoning and troubleshooting skills of an ax handle. Let the engineers take care of their own internet security? Most of these guys cannot even assign a static IP to a PC or troubleshoot the phone they just built. They cripple their own lab networks by inadvertently launching DDoS attacks on themselves.

You know what you get when you let the business unit people try to be IT engineers? SONY-- who had their jockstraps hacked off of them last year, as well as a few billion dollars in losses.

I am so sorry that you are so bitter about your prospects next month, but to add salt to the wound-- most of those IT folks who couldn't get "real jobs" will still be working there next month when you get your walking papers.

Get rid of corp IT? LOL You are like a SCUBA diver that decides that since he can breath underwater-- he must not need the breathing apparatus.

Get rid of the engineers that can't handle their own computers. The majority of the IT guys are lazy and dumb. IT is a job you get when you can't get a real job.

You're a moron if you think you can get rid of departments like IT, Security and Hardware and survive. Most end users don't know their heads from their assholes when it comes to the company computers they are using. Engineer in your title doesn't automatically mean you know jack about computers, phone systems or computer and IP. Get real.

IC designers choosing their own components and designing own boards?? they dont know anything beyond ckt diagrams or gates. HW guys have to explain everything to them... they think once IC design is done, phone starts working automatically.... stupid guys asks for 0.1pH inductance improvements!! poor guys!!

I can't tell you how many "engineers" can't do the least bit of troubleshooting when it comes to networking and or computers and applications.

On the other hand, if Qlawyers had to fix their own computers, they wouldn't have time to plan a layoff and vet people to determine which ones should get PIPs.

You must be joking. I work with people who can barely run their computers let alone fix their own issues.
