Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Drug Test

Weird... I was tested twice the last 3 months at COP... I wonder if they tried to lay me off on the cheap?

Did you have a similar experience?

The company would prefer to proceed with layoffs. Too many opportunities with firing for legal recourse for the employee. Too much paperwork for the layers to fire people for drug use. Not a good time to do drugs regardless as difficult to find a new job in the current environment and layoff sounds much better than fired.

In the last week 4 people I work with have been tested. Sure seems like an uptick to me. If they can fire you they don't have to pay your severance. Don't do drugs.

The tests are random so yes possible to be tested twice in a short period of time. Or you may have been reported via an ethics claim with the resulting drug test. Nothing to worry about unless you do drugs. The tests are very expensive and corporations are not fond of excessive testings. The excessive testing creates issue for the company with an employee termination. As noted, the testing creates issues for both the employee and the employer. End result you may be protected from layoffs.
