Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

NOV Eldridge is right

Why is there always something bad to say about the degreed employee? Mechanical Engineers face this problem with Manufacturing Engineers and Machinists. I put in years of academic experience just like you have at the shop. I respect your hands-on experience and I'm open to your suggestions. But what you're not gonna do is belittle my degree and position I have in my sphere of knowledge and responsibilities. Don't quiz me on what I know and don't know. I will not feed into your insecurities. And when l give instructions, you have no choice than to obey. Simply put, it's almost like a toxic relationship dealing with these insecure guys. The elephant in our group was laid off and you could see the difference in the atmosphere around here. The dark cloud is gone and better days are ahead. Yes, it could be my turn tomorrow, but this should a lesson to stay humble. I am replaceable. You are replaceable. Every one replaceable.

Modern Education:

Creating people who are smart enough to accurately repeat what they have been told and follow orders.... also dumb enough to think this makes them smarter than everybody else. How many people do I know with degrees who work in McDonalds !!!!!!

Just came here to say that your usage of "elephant in the room" is incorrect. The "elephant" is generally a taboo topic that people would rather ignore than discuss. Perhaps you meant to call him a thorn in your side or a pain in the neck?

Anon 173955, you can shove your English 1301 up your arse. How would you know for a fact if someone is educated or not? By a few lines of thought? Really?? Your ASSumptions is a dead giveaway of how ignorant you are yet consider yourself so educated. NOT! Did you at least try to consider that the reader did know what your elephant comment meant? Could it be that you did not understand his or her response? Could it be you quickly jumped to conclusions which caused you to react defensively? Could it be your perception is just a reflection of yourself? Practice what you preach you moron with all your talk about staying humble and lessons learned. You've got a long way to go......

Just because you're uneducated, I'll explain it to you. :) Ever heard the saying " elephant in the room"? I guess not!! When a person describes you as an elephant, it means that you're difficult to put up with. English 1301? Pretty sure you don't know what that means. Haha.
