Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

EDMC to declare itself bankrupt. Just watch.

The money grubbers win. And they will have successfully squeezed every last drop. Evil, but brilliant. At this point you can only continue to blame to victims still taking on debt to line the pockets of a few.

Long painful death like a cancer slowly taking lives... finally edmc at deaths door......

Look around! It is now late 2016 and look where EDMC is today! 18 out of its 50 campuses closed and counting. Stock has flushed down to $0.01/share. There is no rebounding from this! This is what a slow painful death looks like.

For all you optimists that think EDMC will prevail and rebound from this I say "GROW UP!!!" You're like a scared little child, too frightened to look in the closet to see if there really is a monster! You fill your minds with happy and fluffy thoughts about the EDMC because you don't know how to do anything else. You're losers with no real life skills, other than ruining young financial lives! There's been reports that HR's for various companies are on to EDMC and are looking out for it on applicant's resumes. Your gravy train is running on fumes.

You will be unemployable, in debt and with nothing to show for just like the students EDMC produced!!!

By Daniel Moore / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Education Management Corp. has laid off 115 employees at its Art Institute schools across the country, with 10 people let go from its Pittsburgh location, the Downtown company confirmed today.

Positions were cut from “several” Art Institute campuses, said EDMC spokesman Chris Hardman, and included both faculty and staff. The layoffs were announced to employees earlier this week, he said.

“As our schools and the sector experience shifts in market demand, staffing must be adjusted accordingly,” Mr. Hardman said, emphasizing that the layoffs are not affecting EDMC employees.

The layoffs come days after the Pittsburgh for-profit education company announced it has a new CEO, Mark McEachen, who came to the company earlier this year. EDMC has struggled with falling admissions and declining profits for years, as the for-profit education industry has come under public scrutiny over recruiting practices.

In May, EDMC announced plans to shutter 15 of its 51 Art Institute campuses across the country, affecting 1,200 employees and more than 5,000 students. In June, it laid off 300 employees nationwide, including 70 in Pittsburgh.

Any profit will go toward lawsuit settlement and corporate shits and no one else. Not faculty, not staff, and surely not facilities...if you haven't figured it out yet you are one of the many under qualified/over paid minions.

Your so right 769. You people are all silly little bastards to EVER think that anything untoward will happen to our beloved EDMC. Now shut the hay up and get on with getting those "commitment agreements" signed. And God bless everyone ahead of time for the shitty job you've done so far to get us where we are today. (MM)

They won't declare bankruptcy you knucklehead. If they do that they loose all their student federal loan access. The $11 billion suit will get settled ( can't squeeze blood from a stone) and the shop will stay the course.

And it's older people also who may have had good past expeiences with education who get sucked in expecting nothing different only to be preyed upon. So karma plays itself out. Reaping what you sow holds true. Not everyone is a bad actor but it's hard not to get caught up in it. Most people don't do a job expecting to constantly have to deal with the terror of unemployment but that's another sign of dysfunction.

What throughly disturbs me is to see the human fallout of all this. The kids pulling up in the front parking lot, driving cars that should have been junked long ago, getting sold a bill of goods and by far the majority eventually screwed over with no one to even pretend to advocate for them. EDMC and others by any yardstick you want to use serves no purpose except to be a jobs program for the few. They call it for-profit just to go ahead and profiteth the few seriously ill manipulators with zero conscience.
