Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

Vultures

I'm surprised and disappointed to see so many people relishing in these layoffs. Being mad at CHK or wanting to stick it to them for some reason, doesn't change the fact that hundreds of families just had their world turned upside down. If you have an inkling of decency, you won't act like a vulture. It's a heart wrenching event and the reality is that many of these people will have to move to find a job. That's not to be celebrated or mocked.

You are all referring to CHK as a whole and acting like you have some sort of consensus on the moral character of the entire group of workers. You don't know shit. You're basing your opinions off of a few interactions and unless you personally know thousands of employees, you're not fit to judge their moral fiber. There ARE shitbags that work there...but there ARE fantastic people who just got their whole life messed up.

Historically chk ruined the oil patch by setting sky high lease prices...not to mention they never paid bonuses in some cases. To add to this a lot of the people that work their don't know how to save a penny. The spend cash like drunken sailors in their personal life. That being said...those that know the oil industry waxes and wanes would have saved their pennys for the tough times ahead. Those that have double mortgages and high priced cars can f*** themselves. This is natural selection. At its best. Those that can stick out will be the ones that are hired back. That is why we revel in their demise. They are ducks who ruined it for everyone else and don't know how to save money.

YES, it is sad. It will change the industry, change families, split families, cause divorces, change OKC, etc. VERY SAD. It shows the intelligence, narcissism, and immaturity of those who "relish" in it. Yes, some are deserving of it, very much so, but it is not only affecting the lives of those that get cut, but their families, loved ones and much much more. It touches everyone of us - those involved and even those not associated with CHK. . . . . and, it will have a domino effect in the months to come!

The signs are all around us so if this totally threw you off guard and you are in shock you need to wake up and pay attention.

Oil and gas is built around speculation, politics and hedging so when the cards fall and the chips run out what do you expect? Like millions who gamble their future and life fortunes in the stock market so do the oil and gas companies. Hedging is what got most of all oil and gas companies in hot water because they assumed that prices that were grossly inflated would continue down that path, etc. They bet the farm and lost BIG TIME. This trend will continue as hedges expire and prices stay low due to over supply and failed geo political deal makings (Iran, etc.) so other companies in OKC and elsewhere will feel the pain of a losing bet and will have to shed jobs, write down, etc. This is the beginning and not the end so if you are employed in OKC by an oil and gas company you should expect the worst (comes with the territory - oil and gas is built on speculation and gambles) at some point and not do stupid things like purchase new cars, homes or get into debt. Stack your cash, stay lean and prepare for the layoff to come. If it never comes then great but if your name is called and you are laid off then you will be glad you were prepared versus not.

There is a BIG world outside of OKC and there are nicer places to live and work so being laid off is not a death knell but an opportunity...

95% of CHK employees don't have decency towards their peers. Everyone thinks they are in an untouchable clan that is above everyone else. This is just Karma knocking at their door.

Everyone is entitled to feel however they feel. Many will welcome and even celebrate this; others will not. If you're looking for people who are standing up for the little people, you're probably on the wrong website.
