Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

With Chesapeake handling this so poorly, when the industry is back, why would anyone work for Chesapeake?

Idiot. Hundreds of the long term TOP corporations "right size " to weather economic downturns. Those that don't - GO UNDER.

People corporations don't owe you anything but the hours you work. It's not government welfare! When companies are short on money they do what you do in your personal life. Cut cost. That's what chk did today.

If company goals are accomplished, all the assets will be sold by the end of next year anyway. Half the people still there will be let go, but not all at once so no severance

@797 - haha so true. Love those slutty receptionists - it was like shooting fish in a barrel of fish. Just show up with a tie, be in shape and BAM, instant fun. God I miss CHK sometimes.

Agreed. CHK is one of the worst places I have ever worked. Two main requirements of a supervisors at CHK,,,, you must be completely lacking in knowledge and common sense and the other is you have to be able to blow smoke up your superior's as#. This is in order to cover up for the incompetency.

I'm really surprised it hasn't gone under a long time ago! A lot of money spent just to make them look good.

For the same reason people went to work for CHK in the 00s. You're probably too young to remember the 90s when CHK was growing and competing. Well guess what - they reached a size where they needed more workers but no one wanted to work for them because they had screwed so many companies over. CHK was hell on contracts and aggressively attacked their partners back in the day....it was all about getting operations from these other companies and then drilling the shit out of the land. Well guess what? They pissed a lot of industry insiders off so they had to attract talent to grow. How did they do this? Pay them more, offer them great incentive packages, build an awesome campus and throw all kinds of parties that you had to be an "insider" to attend. They did it in spades and when the time comes for them to expand again, they'll be able to attract the talent. Trust me - we're all whores and will do anything for a paycheck.
