Yes, I know a few who were let go this way, but Target would, per usual, give it another name, 'sunsetting' , I believe.
Yes, true, many projects in TTS had/has this scenario...Either projects got cancelled or got over, team members were left after that on their own, because Managers moved or got promoted ....team members who really worked were let to find another project for them selves and when the layoffs came guess what who were let go...This is shame...managers never took accountability of the team or supported or recognized who really worked hard, they took the credit and got promoted and moved on..Managers cared about themselves too much...managers meaning (directors, KMGs)
It isn't new that if you step out of your role to work on a special project you are not guaranteed a position at the end. The manager is supposed to make that clear at the beginning. There's usually safe passage back to the original dept or the special-project position morphs into a new role that supports the new initiative, post rollout. It can be an opportunity or a risk.
