Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Intel or Qualcomm?

Would you choose to work at Intel over qualcomm assuming similar pay/location. Any pros and cons from someone who has worked in both companies? No trolling please.

Work at QC. Considering a move but thinking Intel will be just as bad, if not now, in 2-3 years. Might be wrong. Thoughts?

Unless you are black, women, or preferably both, right now you have very slim shot at finding job at Intel regardless of your qualifications - that's pretty much all we're hiring in place of recently fired veteran engineers.

I am hardware and would much rather work for Qualcomm. Intel is stable but is mind numbing to work for, internal tools and push button flows that a monkey can do

Which eye would you like poked with a sharp stick, left or right? 4 years ago I would say QC by a mile. Now there's no difference, except Intel is more disciplined and takes 2 or 3 times the headcount per project...

In the short run, Intel is probably a bit more "stable." But I would view it as a temporary landing, that will give you time to investigate other possibilities--you are in the Bay Area, I presume? There are other companies that do hardware.

OP here. Problem is I'm an hardware engineer and hw jobs aren't as easily available as software engg jobs. So it not as simple as "go find an IoT startup". Given a choice I wouldn't prefer big companies like Intel and Qualcomm either but looks like I have limited options. Or may be I just have limited breadth of knowledge. Anyway thanks to those who posted! Appreciate your time.

Pretty Obvious, if you are looking from a long term perspective ... choose the company with the most diversified portfolio and the range of internal opportunities available.

If I were still a QCOM person, I'd wait for a GTFO package and try to work for a smaller company with more growth potential...
