If you believe the recent article on Amazon work expectations, Target is even worse. We put in the same crazy hours, get some crappy feedback, but have no clear expectations....other than transform what you do.....what is that? You work on things you don't even know if Target wants you doing.

But what about gender pay equality....target must be the best at that.....who gives a crap.
Amazon expects you to be available 24/7... Thanksgiving, birthday, graduation, it all does not matter. Family does not matter. Cancer, birth, it does not matter, Amazon matters, goals matter, value add matters, numbers matter. If you think we have backstabbing is rampant here, you need to see how it is accepted and openly encouraged at Amazon... I spent 32 minths at amazon, left 4 years ago and I am still recovering. Target is a country club man. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Lol, worse? Target's hand holding culture is the complete opposite of Amazon. Also, I don't think it "no longer matters to leadership how you've performed". The problem is that most of our leadership don't have a clue what performance even looks like, let alone how to manage it. Nothing is data driven. Promotions have little to do with real contributions and everything to do with image.
The "work culture" in TTS is built around the philosophy that everything - strategy, leadership, organizational structure, team focus areas - is going to change every six to eight weeks, so either be "resilient and adaptable" and be ok with the roller coaster - or don't, and be blamed for not being a team player.
Good luck writing your 2015 performance reviews everyone, because management will only care about what you did in the two months before your review was written.
Also, Jodee Kozlak sucks, and needs to be fired.
TGT is soft. I would not compare it to Amazon because the only crying at TGT is when the Starbucks is out of cream and your GTKY is cancelled. Innovation is non-existent.
137387 - you hit the nail on the head. Completely agree.
When it no longer matters to leadership how you've performed and you are just as likely to be laid off as a loser....there is no longer an incentive to work hard and excel.
Anyone from target comparing themselves to amazonians and the time we put in there is a joke.
amzn drives every decision via data driven metric horsepower. Don't kid me with the ridiculous target soft culture. It needs to be shaken upside down to loosen the deadwood (nice Amzn term).
People are drained in TTS, not because they have to much to do, but just because they are stressed and unsure what they should work on until transformation arrives. Wasting time is exhausting and boring. It will take a long time to regain any momentum.
If it is work, one can do.the work, a few hours here and there.additional. but, in Target 'transformation' itself is everyone's work. As both TM'S AND MANAGERS are constantly transforming, their speed difference causes feedback. Work, ok let us see tomorrow.
I've been very critical of Target and Brian, don't get me wrong, but I disagree that Target is worse than Amazon. Our shit stinks, but Amazon's is rotting.
Not even the number of hours, just expectation of 100% availability around the clock.

Out of curiosity what do you consider crazy hours?
Worse than you not knowing, is that your leaders don't know if you should be working on it.
