Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

I asked for my options since they told me work for my position was slowing down. They're telling me that they're not eliminating my position. So they said they can't offer me a severance package.

Been with the Q for a long time and can't believe that they won't offer me the standard package. I think this is some sort of discrimination. What do you all think?

yea, don't bother with trying to get a package, I tried and tried and tried, finaly said screw it and just quit. HR is trained to NOT give you a package as they wanna save $ (rightly so, it's not in their best interest to give out packages). You'll just waste your time and encounter a lot of hassle, if you want out, then quit (find another gig in the process). I thought working there was such a dead end, couldn't take it anymore (felt like working at 7-11).

Don't choose an attorney based on free consult. Employment law requires some amount of expertise, as opposed to ambulance chasing. Pick someone who has been practicing in that field for at least 5 years. Ask how much they would charge for an initial consult. Litigation is nice, but someone who is familiar w/ arbitration and mediation Wil most likely get you the best outcome for lower legal fees.

File a complaint with the EEOC. If you are over age 40, have a disability, or are a member of a protected minority, you may have a good case. Also if you are put on a PIP after you file a complaint, it can be construed as retaliatory, in some cases. Request a copy of your entire employment record a soon as possible.

I agree with others. You'll be put on PIP soon. This is their normal tactic.

They've been having me perform menial tasks and lowering my review scores. They've been telling me that they're doing me a favor basically since they haven't gotten rid of me yet. Now that I ask for my options to leave, they won't offer me severance even though layoffs are rampant.
