Thread regarding Pearson PLC layoffs

Almost 300 People Canned Yesterday

Yesterday was a bad day. I got a pink slip after 10 years with the Pearson along with about 300 other unlucky souls. I suppose it was time anyway, although it didn't make it any easier. I feel bad for all my co-workers that lost jobs. It wasn't due to our lack or work, knowledge or dedication. For those of you that are left, you should probably ask yourself when the next cuts will come. Pearson has a terrible name right now and those at the top are not doing anything to help the brand. Business is shrinking. Merit raises are not even keeping pace with inflation. Cuts, freezes, and more work (especially now) are common. Is it worth working everyday in fear? I enjoyed the people I worked with while I was there, I survived and put up with so many reorgs, I lost count. It should be a career where one can grow, not Survivor the reality show. Good luck to all those still there. My advice, get a back up plan.

There is life on the other side of Pearson, said a 27 year committed employee who, like a dysfunctional relationship, still has a craving to connect with the world that was lost abruptly, two years ago, with not even a 'thank you for your time' (trace of sarcasm intended). The ache in the heart is fading, still feeling a twinge of emotion as I write this, I have no regrets. Not one. I had the career that dreams were made of. I am blessed because of the experiences I've had for over half of my life at Pearson - every single one - even that fateful day... You will all rise above. You will. Because you are all good people. We hired well. Use this opportunity to recreate yourself and go after the dream that is still tugging at your heart, whether it is in this industry...or not. Accept your demise as a gift and go powerfully 'onward and upward' (like a true hero has told me more than once). Take your time, there is plenty for everyone. The universe is abundant and you are part of the whole! Pause for however long it takes to get your sea legs, dream big and go for the next iteration of yourself! It's going to be alright! It already is! I believe in you.

Layoffs began a couple of weeks ago with the dismissal of numerous people within the PLC group in Denver and Indianapolis. Today with the Pearson Technology Group offices in Boston, Indianapolis, and San Francisco began the cuts.

John Fallon announced more job cuts, BUT he doesn't know where they will be. I don't believe that for one minute. Happy Holidays.

Anonymous117876 - I've been with the company for about 7 years. I feel the same, the mood is horrible and everyone is anxious (especially me, as I know I am on the chopping block). We'll see what happens but I need to stop being lazy and start looking. Thanks for sharing your experience and good luck.
