Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Qualcomm's prior success is ultimately why many of you looking for a better opportunity in SD are screwed...

In the ideal world, if you have a healthy competition/fair fight between multiple companies, it encourages innovation. And you end up having multiple companies vying to build the best products. Employees benefit from this healthy competition, as there are multiple opportunities available all over the place. However, when one players gets to a point to being dominant and then takes it up a notch to abuse monopolistic powers, it screws over fair competition. And when that company itself has problems, its poor employees have nowhere else to go because there are no other employers employing people for the same skill set. That's what many of you guys who will get RIF'ed end up facing. TI gone, BRCM gone, Nokia gone, etc, etc, etc, if you're deep in telco stuff, it's going to look really sucky for you if you do get laidoff...

QC has being investigated on every continent, if the government was not too busy fighting terrorist. Maybe QC exec’s did not specifically say to use QC’s dominant position to get design wins, but they did not limit the use of leveraging tools, like withholding licensing, bundling, selling below cost, etc. Those practices have caught up with QC, and now is time to pay. Chip price is crashing and royalty scheme is being dismantled. The only end is massive layoffs.
