Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Those who got laid off or left voluntarily- where did you end up, do you like it better, why/why not?

Just curious. I was laid off, ended up at Best Buy. So far I'm really liking it, more straight forward and nimble.

I got laid off in March and I have had 6 offers since. Life is great beyond Target. Target of old was shit with so much emphasis on "coffee status". The Target of new will be better eventually...

I left on my own several months ago and went to Bluestem Brands, a smaller $2B retailer who's brands include Fingerhut. The fact that I left Target really pained me because I loved the brand and the people. What drove me away was the uncertainty of my future; not necessarily whether I'd have a job (but that did play in), but what I'd being doing as a PG19. I'm very happy at Bluestem where the people are equally nice, the leadership is top-notch, and I have the ability (and requirement) to drive change at a much faster pace. My advice to anyone who listens is to treat your career like a business. Blind loyalty to a company, especially one as big as Target, will not always be rewarded.

Don't give up. There is always a company willing to hire a hard working and skilled person. Remember, it is up to YOURSELF to build your future. On the other hand, if you depend on a company's decision to be "pushed up" or promoted just because of tenure, boy you are destined to fail.

Laid off in March, still no work, 15 years with Target, 8 years with a competitor prior to that. There were some opportunities but with family responsibilities it'd be hard to have a 30+ mile commute. Still looking, I hope things will work out soon. It's a big burden on us from a financial standpoint but we still have 6+ months of cash reserves so I am not freaking out yet. Healthcare is through my husband for now. Good luck to all.

I was laid off. I ended up moving to the east coast. Big promotion, way better company, 50+% raise (not including bonus), The brand is growing insanely fast, and we actually have an up to date it infrastructure. Everything is awesome.
