Is it true the reason for Paul Jacob's depature from president was to protect his portfolio during his divorce? I've heard this from many sources.

Smarter means he will be just watching
So basically ...PJ using SM for his benefit = PJ smarter than SM = we have dumber CEO that what we had earlier? Am I making any sense here?
With this situation, he is not naive enough to come back now. Until board and investor loss patient and SM is getting fat enough so that he is willing to resign. PJ will be back like a hero. And he will not try to save Q, instead he will announce total reorganize and everyone will understand that is what has to be done and no one blame him. It's all the dumb ass SM. and PJ will successfully rescue stock price by cutting another 20% to 30%. And no one will complain simply just because he is a hero. Then when he run out of premium he will step down for another guy and show the world the true leader he is.
I am now start getting some idea about recent deterioration in leadership quality..... SM probably would not even have gotten past qualification for Sr program manager in MSFT.
When PJ is expected to wrap up his personal mess and come back to work?
SM not only get 51m. Check what he receive in 2013/2014. You will understand why he loves this job....
This all look fishy ,To me these guys pretend something else from outside but playing all these dirty games internally....basically screwing shareholders and employees and having LOT of fun on QC's dime.
Anonymous117058 ... I think what you suggested is also a possibility...if we we go by your theory then basically PJ made SM scapegoat ( but with $51m golden cuffs)...means PJ is smarter than SM but SM is not a fool either( Because he made good use of this opportunity and negotiated cool 51m for his services to PJ)....make sense?
PJ is in different level . He simply outplay SM. And I think the MSFT rumor is fake. SM simply just use it to negotiate his promotion. Do you think PJ is stupid/kind enough to step down because SM is leaving for MSFT? The best play I have ever seen. PJ still receive his premium every year and when the storm past he can simple return as a hero or just give his sympathy to this unfortunate event. He has nothing to loss. No hard feeling, I will do exactly the same thing if I were PJ. Thousands of people loss job doesn't really bother though as long as I have hundreds of millions secure in my pocket.....
My theory on how this probably played out : Most likely PJ got complacent with initial snapdragon success and thought he can have some fun and lost focus on china and when china issue became big board forced to fire him, due to his daddy's influence on board he get to keep honorary chairman title...
PJ has been philandering around for years. It's common knowledge in San Diego. Divorce or no, stepping down as CEO isn't going to change his divorce outcome. Think smarter about it. Prob had something to do with China settlement or some other legal reason vs his personal life.
I think PJ will not come back. And even if he does and he fail to regain Qualcomm's glory, no one will blame him. It's all SM....
Way to go PJ, the investment worth it.
I have 10x better looking gf then her...only worry now I have is to hide her from PJ...
She looks pretty.
Is this is the one?

That seemed to be most plausible explanation to me...I am hoping for PJ to come back soon and bring things on track. I was getting very good bonuses under PJ's leadership...with SM my bonus is dried up and I am not even sure how long I can keep this job...
This raises aninteresting question: is it possible that $51m paid to SM includes compensation for his willingness to play along nicely, hold fort till PJ sort out his personal issues and ready for comeback? just a possibility...may be or not?
Very interesting thread...

Anonymous101504, PJ stepped down because he knew that things were about to get rocky and he was going through a nasty divorce because he picked up a Canadian chippy as his permanent booty call.

Cant find it...search sucks in this site, can we get link please?
The info right here at thelayoff but you have to work hard for it (use the search box) .... bonne nuit!
who?
Oui monsieur!
Someone else?
No, no, no, it was not the lady that went to MS ..... le 'bimbo' parle francais
Guys, this is not very uncommon among big shots...Clinton also went through same issue but hillary stayed put..its just personal choice.
"escape goat" bahahahaha.. does pj ride on the back of the escape goat?
Donald Trump could do better as a CEO
Sorry what are you trying to say?
In one of gettogether in K someone mentioned that their was something going on with the lady who left for msft after he stepped down which caused it...not sure how true of its pure gossip
Money is never enough....btw SM seems to be very lucky 1st SJ made space for him than PJ...
Ok first SM isn't poor at all. He's got a taste of Qualcomm CEO. He is not even close to poor. Image you and I may never have that chance in this life or maybe next life. Second 51m too expensive for a clown. You can hire all clown companies in the world with that money I guess...
Guys , Do you know why PJ divorced? .... savez-vous? Merci beaucoup!
Hmms so it seems due to his personal issues he could focus on S810 and china and messed it up so badly and now poor SM has to deal with it....I guess SM deserve $51 m if that's the case..
You know when it comes to divorce. A penny I s a penny, it's all business...
Well played PJ... Did it save decent in divorce settlement?
I don't think so. If QC send all the junk to MS. Who is to blame today. Paul is not gonna let that happen. He is not stupid...
Great cover up..no one suspected it..Did they feed bogus rumor to press to be published on eve of announcement?
MIcrosoft is in the death throes of closing their mobile division. Would SM really have thwarted this event? QC should have sent Murthy to them.
