It did. It acquired CSR. CSR has about 2000 people world wide.
But CSR and QCOM acquisition not completed yet.
When integration starts in Fall 2015, more layoffs will happen, both on CSR side and QCOM side.
This will be around thanksgiving or Christmas.
Watch out.
@115814: Why is it impossible to fire 6500 people. That is only around 20% of the headcount. QC went on a hiring binge, thinking that it could multiply growth by duplicating groups. Hiring became proportional to revenue. What a big mistake. CDMA success took over 20 years to develop. Any new business would take at least that long to develop to $billion level. The fact is that most projects fail. Limited growth, combined with increasing competition and China slowdown, call for a major reduction in headcount.
I heard by accident at lunch time that only people with bad breath will be layoff that should be how many?
Impossible to fire this many people ... I would say rumor mill has gone overboard now ..
Why CNBC? What is wrong in expressing views in this forum? I think it helps company with less media exposure on negative stuff and giving opportunity to rectify it...
If you do not like it here, go to CNBC, they will tell you how it is. There is a lot of internal communication floating around, you may want to check that out to. Maybe a memo from your VP, geez...

I hope @allhandsorator is there to ask the "tough" questions, like what the CFO thinks about the chargers moving to LA, as some sort of metaphor for the transition into internet of thingamajigs market. The only guarantee is that the korporate kool aid drinkers will be completely blindsided.
I heard that its somewhere ~$4k ( its not fixed as there is not of attrition and other possibilities under discussion) but it will be in batches and combination of layoff and PIPs...

I don't think anyone would know what the definite number is until announced. But we have to understand - it's a corporation, and the risk of losing a job is always there. I was going to lose my job at Q a couple of years back due to closure of our group, but eventually got hired for another position. At that time, I was very anxious due to the fact that I hadn't planned for it. Now, we have 6 months of salary parked in an account for such a situation, and my anxiety level has greatly reduced. The job market isn't that bad if you are ok to leave SD.
Judging on the number of views here, I'd say there are thousands of people at QCOM who are monitoring this rumor
