Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Is TNC going to be sold?

I heard that the GTS team is moving from TNC to CC, and eventually Target will sell the campus. Has anyone heard of more moves and vacating building?

I've been told that TCW is the most likely property to be sold. Old building, lots of unoccupied space, etc.

The only people who say GTS are people who work in GTS!

I absolutely LOVE working at TNC! It is so nice and relaxing. Even though you work hard, I do not have that pressure cooker environment of Downtown. I do not feel scared for my life walking into the building, as I did walking in the parking ramp or while waiting for the bus. I do see the writing on the wall. There is less than half of the people at the building today, as there was in March. I heard some teams got their notices of the will be moving to another location by the end of this year. Other teams have recently got their layoff notices and I hear rumors (yes, I know rumors are just that rumors) that others will get theirs later this month.TNC will be vacant possibly as early as fiscal 2016. If Target rents out TNC, they could still fulfill their agreement with Brooklyn Park.

I agree that TNC is a nice facility. When I applied to work for the corporation though I applied to be in downtown Mpls - this was a huge factor in my decision to take the job - and it was based on where I live, bus lines, after work activities, proximity to my children's schools, etc. Being moved Up North felt like a betrayal. BUT, I work with people who live in the northern 'burbs and the free parking was a godsend to them. It goes against the agile/scrum thinking that we're adopting now but in a perfect world, the Northerns could have TNC, the Southerners could stay downtown, and East and West could chose what works best for them. The problem to solve is how do you stay a cohesive team if you're not located in the same place - not impossible to solve but it takes work. Absence doesn't make the heart grow fonder; absence makes the heart forget.

TNC is a good place for people to work. Not everyone is allowed to telecommute.

It's actually a beautiful campus and people who live out this way love the commute and the parking. There are many people who work at TNC who would not be happy about a relocation downtown, but would do it if it meant keeping a job. Duh.

Building TNC was one of the worst decisions ever for Target. If they sell it it will be wise. They need to return to their roots in downtown and enable a telecommute policy that works. Lync-enabled meetings work. I don't care if my team is in Guatemala, Romania or Japan, as long as they do the job. Saves gas, saves time, saves expensive Starbucks crap and keeps teams motivated.
