6% of workforce, mostly in phone division. Why are qc employees in such denial? Everybody I ask about sudden vp departures weeks before investors are promised an update on comprehensive cost reductions thinks it's totally normal.

When you have $95B in cash, no debt and free cash flow after expenses of $17B a year, even $5B a year on WP can be a round off error.
WP has < 2% market share ,thats too in low and mid end...its not relevant OS in mobile space by any means...its surprising msft still burning cash on it.
mSFT may keep WP around for some time as they have cash but their other businesses are getting pressure as well so they may be forced to cut WP as its monetization opportunities are no longer attractive for msft..

I don't think WP is going away, MSFT just isn't going to make hardware anymore. Remember they bought that Nokia division with the intent to release a phone. I think the software they will probably continue working on, as well as pushing for tablets O/S too.
Can you imagine the trouble Microsoft would be in right now if SM had taken the job there?

About 12000 laid off in Finland through the past year, additional 7800 this year. The Nokia acquisition brought in 25000, mostly from Finland, so that leaves about 5000 employees not including attrition.

It seems MSFT is losing patience with WP and may exit phone OS business and focus on making money with apps on third party OS...market can't digest 3 echo systems and ios and android is already way ahead in game
