Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Grocery and PFresh on the butcher block? Pun intended

An earlier post claimed that Grocery would be the next business to be sold. Target should begin downsizing the size of the stores vs selling off the crap inside. Physically, grocery and P-fresh are serious square footage on an already underperforming store footprint. What would you do? Sell it to Supervalu or Kroger? Why would they want to run a low margin business then have to pay rent to Target? If that works turn every store into "Target Mall" and then sell the women's clothes to Ann Taylor, Men's clothes to Jos A Banks... Sporting goods sections to Dick's, Auto area to O'Reilly Auto Parts, ....and on and on and on ... dumb !

It has already been pointed out that Brian was brought in to reduce Target to a company that sells only Pepsi and chips at a corner store. Be patient he is getting there.

So Target is aspiring to excel at and be a specialty grocer yet you scoff at the idea of the same thing with clothing? Sounds like you dont know the guest. They perceive Target as a big box regardless of the category! Target essentially wants to drop some Whole Foods type offering in the middle of the store. However, when you also sell diapers, pants, toys, etc., you are NEVER going to be thought of as a specialty grocer because, guess what, you aren't! I dont care how many square feet you take away. At least figure out how to get some bananas in my non pfresh store and then I might entertain the thought of Target and credible grocer in the same sentence.

This is a irrelevant post with no back knowledge of the grocery business. Much work is already being done in this area to transform the grocery business. We're moving to specialty and excellence, and away from big box crap. They're not selling it off, they're improving it. And do you really think Target will aspire to Supervalu and Ann Taylor? Where do you shop? That's who you think our audience is? No. Someone's a bit disconnected with who the brand is aspiring to be.

Valid point -- It eliminates the need for the high paid buying staffs in TPS and refocuses accountability on experts who actually manage the business. Revisit the grocery assortment then shop the business.

Ok, you really need to step away from the keyboard. You have ZERO knowledge of Target. Target has been doing this since the 60's.... Photo, target optical, starbucks, lawn and garden - west coast, big chunks of health and beauty, used to be: automotive service and tire, pharmacy and now pharmacy again, financial services, paint and on and on
