So far. Not many companies have stepped up (yet)....I wish more of you would say the same thing...Maybe enough people said the same thing, more companies would actually step up....
Hi (Recruiter Name deleted),
I really appreciate you reaching out to me about opportunities at (CompanyX). (CompanyX) is a great company, and normally I would be interested. Unfortunately, I am currently live in San Diego and and not able to relocate back to the Bay Area at this time. It's the common problem that I have along with many of my other colleagues. I've been contacted by Google, Facebook, Apple, Amazon, and other leading tech companies recently (and now I can add (CompanyX) :)). While my technical skills and background in both mobile and enterprise software engineering appears to be a highly desired skill among many employers, none of the employers so far have a location or opportunity that would allow me to remain in San Diego. It's really unfortunate, because in San Diego there is a pretty large talent pool of mobile developers, and we're all "stuck" with our local employers that have recently become "stale" that lack growth....For some of us that can, we try to commute to Orange County (about 1.5 hours away where Amazon and Google have an office) or even further to Los Angeles (2.5 hrs away, which has even greater opportunities from those mentioned companies). Off the top of my head, I think I know about 15-20 people that are in similar situations as me, and none of us can relocate......We're all hoping that one day some of the great companies in the Bay Area, such as your company (CompanyX), will explore the possibility of having more remote locations. For example, we're hoping Google's recent acquisition of a sensor company in San Diego will bring more opportunities to our area, especially since Google has publicized they plan on keeping this office location. We can only hope that in a few months from now, Google expands this group/division in San Diego and actually starts hiring people. Also, recently, Walmart's push into eCommerce and its attempt to go head-to-head with Amazon in eCommerce has opened a noticeable number of great opportunities in the enterprise software and mobile app space in Carlsbad: I guess, because they found a good talent pool here in San Diego to tap into. Fortunately, I've been lucky and have been able to secure a software position at (CompanyY), which has its entire software group here in San Diego, despite being headquartered in the Bay Area, due to the experience/expertise of the mobile talent down here. I also hope we continue to expand here too in the future and add more opportunities for others down here who are interested and looking. Anyway, if your company does have a future opportunity in San Diego, please do let me know. And if I do run into anyone that is interested in relocating, I will send them your contact information. Respectfully, AAAAA
