I'm sorry to hear about all the layoffs and such at Intel. If it makes you feel any better, you should know Qualcomm has been doing exactly the same thing.

Sounds like ebola spreading through fortune 500 companies. They envy each others success so fire their older workers looking for new ideas. They end up hiring senior workers from the company they envy. Net long term effect is the senior dudes spread the same cultures to each other.
So right....I worked at Qualcomm and now Intel. They are the same when it comes to layoffs. Target old folks, make up excuses to get rid of them. Managers and directors are useless. Neither company cares about their employees like they claim. HR folks must have attended the same schools because they use the same excuses.
