Corporations are people. They are cute as babies then grow up to be psychopaths. Everyone in Qualcomm has been walking around and saying it is not Erwin’s company anymore for years now. The culture at Qualcomm is hire as many H1Bs as you can, move as many jobs to overseas as you can, and make people work hard but not smart. People trying to outdo each other working longer and longer hours, making more and more mistakes, and looking like heroes cleaning up their mistakes. Of course some literally drop dead in the process. Upper management determines merit ratings and bonuses and RSUs based on their preconceived prejudices, and managers are tasked to write reviews to justify the numbers after the fact. They have a rank and yank system, designed to get rid of people who are consistent performers but do not kiss butt or kill themselves working late nights and weekends. So these upcoming layoffs will target those types of people and older people. They will also layoff all temps. Most executives are useless or worse they are harmful to the success of business. They can all quit tomorrow and the business would not miss a beat.

I couldn't agree more with the H1B visa population and the singleton country that owns all these H1B visas. Yes they are hardworking people who also put long hours ( because their family is not in U.S. and have no one to go to after work), so what does it make to the American who has family and try to keep his job and family together? They are low performers that are enlisted to layoff ! I love immigrants. My great great grandparents were immigrants, but if one clans is overpopulated and destroy our good old American QC culture( the comment about fixing their own bugs and work long hours, or every meeting is a debate), the melting pot concept is gone

they aren't "outside parties". And that "significant interest" is called partial ownership
@ 112833: If QC had any balls, they would tell Jana to go f*ck themselves--that they don't take orders from outside parties with a significant financial interest. (In fact they'd put THAT on a flippin' t-shirt instead of "Why wait....") But no, SM is a veritable weenie. People are beyond pissed. Some of them are doing something about it. Unfortunately, you'll never hear about the lawsuits from QC....
Keep in mind the folks with H1B visas are not bad people and they are skilled hardworking engineers. Criticism is not against them. By bringing in 80K+ people into the work force, companies don't have to improve the working conditions and the benefits, and we all end up working insane hours so we don't fall to the bottom of the list.
While all of this is true, more or less, why complain about it? Does no good. It is what it is - unlikely to change. If you can tolerate the misery that QCOM has become, then suck it up. If not, try to get a GTFO package and move on with your life. You will be much happier in a better work environment. There are options, you just have to start looking. But if you aren't willing to even do that, then you pretty much deserve what you get @ QCOM. I think management knows that lots of people are too lazy or complacent to do anything else than complain. In fact, if I were in management there, I would take advantage of that to continue to cut benefits and require more work of people to get Jana off my back.

Its the only company I've worked at where people literally jumped off the buildings, twice(!).
