Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Cost saving measures...

In some ways I hate saying this but, seriously, does it seem backwards to have an entire Community Relations pyramid (or whatever it's called these days) that gives $$ away when the company is slashing jobs in an effort to save $$? Or is that just window dressing that helps TGT pay less in taxes? Curious about that...

Jesus people, take a little care when you're writing your comments (and use spell check). If your writing is indicative of the care you put into your work, I'd probably can you too.

So cutting employee spend is good while wasteful PR spend which I would be curious to see the value return on is bad. So quick summary of what I am hearing. Employees create waste/expense, therefore we must eliminate employees. Since employees must be eliminated they need to prove their value to stay. Since employees need to prove there value there initial view of calue by leadership is 0 so start by questioning there value.

Since Target image is critical we must not cut dpend on Target image. So Target > employee. Makes sense to me, i wonder what the lowly Target employees think of this logic. Tell us how you really feel.

Agree whole-heartedly with 310 and 132. Back tracking on Target's community giving would not only piss-off customers, it would be a PR and investor nightmare, drive a stake through the heart of staff, and signal that Target was truly waving a white flag and/or Cornell is truly the pillaging black heart so many suspect him to be.

Problem is not the layoffs but approach around them. Instead of just randomly eliminating positions and indivduals in them regardless of their performance and talents. Understand roles, sills needed, and counts first then eliminate the least performing or qualified team members. However that does require talent management practices and understanding

You nailed it. Tax cuts.

Plus target made a promise a long time ago to donate 5% off their profits. It would be a huge mistake to change that.

Plus target isn't cutting jobs because they are losing money. Target is still profitable but simply spending to much money on unneeded resources. They are slashing jobs because historically layoffs didn't happen at target. Target continued to get extremely bloated with many unneeded and duplicate roles.

Unfortunately these layoffs need to happen.
