There is no strategy at Target at this point. Whatever direction the wind is blowing they go with it. Organic food...sure, even though Whole Foods the pioneer is struggling. Boys toys or clothes...no,no,no....there is no such thing as gender anymore. They are running scared with no conviction, trying not to lose it all on their watch. This is why they have to layoff employees now and will continue until last store is shuttered.

135535...most toys are not bought by kids, but adults. The point is many adults are tired of the PC crap companies pull and will shop where they don't have to listen or see it. Get used to serving the 10% if you keep it up. Amazon doesn't care about some stupid ladies tweet, they just sell stuff.
Why would someone stop shopping at target because their girl toys aren't surrounded by pink walls, or the "girl" Legos are by the "boy" Legos? I can't believe it took that long to make this change. toys are toys, and I think target is happy to sell them to any kid that wants them.
I'll bet Target loses far more customers to PC decisions than it will ever gain from them. Leadership is just too scared to think about it.
You can't be a mass merchandising company and keep bowing to the needs of the few. That is what niche merchants do. Target can't do mass well, how are they going to do niche on top of it? Oh wait, I forgot BC's grand plan is to ultimately have target be 1 corner store selling chips and Pepsi. He's getting it there.
I meant "act like men", not "ace".
134959- thanks for the "enlightening" read, but removing gender signs in toy aisles has little to do with feminism in the workplace. It's about following gender stereotypes and forcing children into boxes prescribed by marketing executives in the 1950s. And for the record, I agree with a lot of what that author is saying, but her basic premise about modern feminism is off a bit. Feminism is not about teaching women to "ace like men", it's about allowing every person, regardless of gender, have be right to the same respect and opportunities regardless of what hormones course through their systems or what anatomy they possess. And no, I didn't weep.
134826, read and weep, you are welcome. http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/7963972?ir=WorldPost
It's not that there's "no such thing as gender", it's that we don't need to bucket dolls and cars into genders just because that's what we have always done. Girls can play with trucks too. It's just removing an unnecessary "descriptive" word. Welcome to the 21st century. Boy toys and girl toys are a marketing tactic that doesn't fly in today's world.
Target reminds me of fasion in Northern Minnesota--always picking up on a trend six months after it's hit everywhere else and by the time they do, there's already something else better frontrunners are doing
When I search Amazon, they have a category for boys toys, so does Target.com.
Looks like the digital team at target best get busy and purge all reference to gender. Bonus - job security for them!
And Amazon will then destroy us for toy sales, etc, etc......
