Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Life outside of Target Can be better. Greener pastures do exist.

I was laid off in April along with many of my comrades. What we have learned is that life can be better outside of Target. My new job pays the same. Company culture is great and people actually want to work because it's employee owned.

I've also run into many of my old counter parts in my new role. My new company is excited to have former Target employees.

Point is if you do get laid off, have faith and confidence in knowing that there might be something out there that's better.

I loved Target, never thought I'd be happy anywhere else until I was forced to move on.

Thank you Target for doing me a favor. You're the best!

For me, Target had two opposite influences... the bad was that I became a lazy f! the good is that I was a lazy f and my work/life balance was AWESOME! and loved the company for it.

I left Target to pursue a new position that pays more and I need to do actual hard work.

I couldn't be happier. Yes, more work for sure, but I feel way better about myself.

There's certainly better options out there.

Yes, there is life outside of work, whether it is target or other org. Coming to the question of whether work life would be much easier than target, well, it depends on how you see it, target lifers (10+) might find it bit difficult outside unless they are open to changing their work habits, you had lot of flexibility in terms of managing / leading your projects at target, you might not see the same flexibility outside, People with <3 years at target might be able to accept the change lot quicker, as they might have seen the true work culture in their previous job.

Thank you for sharing, lifted my spirits...This gives me hope. I too was let go in March and have yet to find employment after 10 years with Target. Being over 50 also makes it a bit tougher. I wish everyone well and happier days.

Anonymous134009 - This was a very nice/positive post. Let it go.... There is life away from and outside of Target, even if you work for Target.

Yes, there is life after TGT, as long as you want it. If you were brainwashed with the Best Company Ever slogan and felt the incredible need to populate your cube with a million meaningless stuffed Bullseye's and have coffee with anybody you could just for the sake of GTKY, then it is going to be harder. If you are used to escape from meetings without an actual deliverable assigned to you, your days are over. YES, the companies that offer lives beyond Target actually do work, have tangible objectives and make people accountable for their efforts. So yes, there is life after TGT, but don't think it is going to be the same life.

I too loved working at Target and was proud to be a team member. After almost two decades I'm at a new company and it is exhilarating. Like the earlier poster said, there are companies out there that are thrilled to pick up talent from Target. There is Life after Target. It's hard for awhile and disorienting but I found there are great people and jobs elsewhere.

This is a nice conversation. I wish there was more of the helpful encouragement, if at least less incorrect or rumor bases info. An stop with the juice box joke. Done with that.

I was also part of the March round. I love my new job and the only thing I miss about Target was the wonderful people that I got to know over the years. I will say you have to really look hard and find the right fit. Gather people who will help you and recommend you. it can take a long time and it's hard on the morale but don't give up and don't listen to some of the mean, snarky souls on this site!

Thank you for your message. I've heard this from several of my acquaintances that were RIF'd in March or as part of leaving Canada. This is such a refreshing message, especially in this month of waiting for the next shoe to drop, specifically in TTS - glad you posted.
