Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

I have reported posts conspiring to discriminate against Indians to the FBI and also to Qualcomm HR.

Behavior of certain people on this forum is egregious and beyond appalling. Either these people are foreigners pretending to be Americans or uncouth rednecks who do not realize what this country went through back in the day. Regardless of who they are, their careers need to be ruined.

reported to the FBI? who did you call? i want names? was it Sunil, or Kathik, or Arkash...? i want their numbers so i can report something, too. i already talked to HR, so we got that covered. don't worry, the CIA and Mossad are on the case. they will find all these engineers. call me if you have any update on the FBI. this is outrageous, i'm telling you!

@ 132892: Not quite. The Anti-SLAPP Statute prevents lawsuits that are considered Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Policy. They are usually filed by a defendant based on the causes of action in the plaintiff's complaint, or a plaintiff based on causes in a defendant's countersuit when allegations are based on protected communications related to litigation or other public speech rights, such as protesting, grievances and testimony given in courts, or speeches given in public forums. Very few attorneys take them on contingency because they are time-consuming (expensive) to fight, and difficult to win.

This one, isn't....That I I know well enough which in recent times, people's liability insurance has been going up and why a lot of liability insurance has suddenly been excluding coverage over social media. Sad, but true. Don't believe me, talk to your insurance agent.

I'm just telling you if you're going to talk smack about someone, you better make sure you have your ass covered, just in case. You guys are all focusing "such a frivolous lawsuit couldn't possibly be won by the person suing"...I'm just telling you it's going to cost you a hell of lot of money just to get your day in court. Do you want to pay $350-400/hour to some attorney just so you can defend "your point", as far fetch as such a lawsuit and outrageous such a lawsuit would be? None of you guys are lawyers, most of you guys are geeks, and you folks seriously underestimate the pain in the ass factor of what someone hell bent on getting back at you would do (that's why you guys are geeks instead of lawyers)...So, if you're going to talk smack about someone specifically, at least do the smart thing and at least really make sure you are really anon. I wouldn't count on this blog owner protected your anonymity.

Anonymous132845, I generally agree with you if you are talking about a company. But there is no depth at how petty individuals can be. I recall, that back a few years ago, we were all posting on a real estate blog about how idiotic some people were being in purchasing homes they couldn't afford, taking out exotic loans they couldn't really afford. Many of the examples we posted were simply posting what was publicly available, and nothing we said was outside of the truth. Some of us did add commentary by stating the guy/gall/family were idiots and couldn't manage their money worth beans. Well it turns out on blog, this guy gets all pissed, because he was one of those people that was losing his multi-million home and on the blog it featured his home...The guy sued, because he was a financial planner/manager (the irony), and claimed that such a posting on a blog was detrimental to his business as a financial planner/money manager. Needless to say, the blog owner shut down his blog because while one ideally would like to claim "free speech", in practice many people underestimate the economic and financial pain of actually going through with a lawsuit, especially one for which you have no financial gain. On the other hand, the plaintiff will be pissed, and will be going after blood. He/she has nothing to lose, and in many cases will want to grind an ax, just for the sake of it. So freedom of speech is not really "free". That said, I would definitely check with your liability insurance and/or your umbrella insurance, because if you look at a lot of those policies, they have recently changed to specifically exclude covering you if you are involved in a libel/slander lawsuit related to social media...or in the very minimum severely limit what they will pay per incident/per person. Because again, we live in a country (and specifically in a state) where people are sue happy.

Now one thing I do want to warn some of you about. IF you do post someone specific individual working at the Q (cough the VP stories), you really really better be careful. Because while the Q probably won't do anything about it, those individuals may try to come after you with libel/slander. And when you're talking about an individual, there's no depth of how much they will come after you, if they want to. And libel/slander is something you really don't want to mess with, especially a lot these blogs/forums posts have been unproven grounds in court wrto freedom of speech versus libel/slander. And you really don't want to be the individual that is going to be the guinea pig court case about free speech on the internet versus libel/slander...So when you talk, you really shouldn't specifically target individuals. If they have an axe to grind with what you posted specifically about them (namewise), they will come after you. And like the old saying goes hell knows know's woman's fury... So walk very very carefully when you single out people on a public forum....

Wow...OP. How naive can you get? LOL. So...where on this board did anyone make a hostile threat? Lol. The FBI has a lot better things to do than to spend its resources on a bunch of grumpy engineers from the Q. I think they might me more preoccupied with...oh I don't know...Terrorism, and deranged people with guns across the nation, excessive use of force by the police, and riot control in some of the places like Ferguson...Second, HR isn't going to do shit. Why? Because to request anything from Layoff.com would require an attorney and a subpoena. That costs time, that costs money. And if they were spend time and money on that (Which would be stupid) they would probably find out some posters aren't even at the Q anymore and some posters are posting from behind a anon proxy server, and some other posters are probably posting from their mobile phone with a shared IP. And then ,even if they do find some IP address that is remotely traceable, then the burden of proof becomes if the person at the IP address really is the Q employee that posted. Afterall, with something like Windows 10 Wifi0-Sense, anyone could in theory share your wifi/hotspot connection. And what monetary benefit would the Q have? Zero, ziltch,nada. Do all these negative posts really "hurt" Q? Or is it just a matter of a bunch of people looking like bad racists? And if Q does step in and get involved, imagine the press having a field day on this. Here we have a 30,000+ employee company yet again demonstrating being petty and once again demostrating wasting resources and time on maybe 10 people posting vile things. Uh, no company in their right mind would want to walk into that landmine. Especially since decent people see this and would recognize it being vile and minority of the entire human race. I can't believe the naivety of the OP....

You may get into trouble just for reporting. @ Anonymous132742 Agreed, but it does give FBI a probable cause, especially because Q is a large publicly traded firm, which is enough for law enforcement to bully someone. If people are already discriminating then they are in the soup. OP shouldn't have notified FBI or HR, it was childish. This scenario is similar to Trump's, he lost quite a bit of business because of his comments on Mexicans even though what he did was not illegal. Getting wrapped up in racist shit never goes well, especially for middle class people.

OP: Nice try. But a bunch of people mouthing off on the internet does not rise to the level of a "conspiracy to discriminate." Particularly if they have no idea who they are interacting with. And the employment laws don't permit regulation of the attitudes of individuals who work for a company. Just their expression while working, on corp. property, or otherwise engaged in activities on behalf of the corp. If they are smart, QCOM's attorneys will NOT do anything because the last thing they need right now, with their stockholders PO'd and their internal politics in a highly precarious state, is a class action for violating their employees' speech rights. From a PR standpoint, this would be a disaster. IMHO.
