@ 132618: I think you are right. I have received several inquiries from Huawei. Except for the fact that they give preference to people who speak Chinese, the jobs are a perfect fit. I did not give it consideration because their reputation for treatment of engineers is even worse than Qualcomm's. Plus they have close ties to Chinese govt. sponsored software specialists in hacking foreign networks. I know this because I developed some (then) cutting edge security code for a previous employer, and my wife discovered that they were using my code to train their people to hack certain types of software. Not sure if I should consider it a compliment; but this has since been remedied.

I have to break it to you but I know 2 or 3 people who left Qualcomm for Huawei and what Huawei does is suck them dry for information and knowledge and then lays them off 12-24 months after they arrive. They cannot afford to pay American salaries. They hire people just to get intelligence on their competitors. Once that intelligence runs dry, those people are laid off.

I am not kidding about this so please be careful. I don't work for Q any more and I don't even like Q any more, but Huawei is worse than Q.

Look no further than QC itself. Why do think the Chinese companies rose so quickly in mobile field. US graduates from China have set out to steal US technology. They would receive government funding to start new companies. What is even more amazing is that people in academia would get involved in helping to secure funding and to transfer the technology.

Huawei got its start like many other Chinese tech companies through backdoor of government funding and support. Chinese high tech companies have deep links to military. After hacking US and European tech companies, the military officers realized the gold mine they had and started their own tech companies with government support. As an American employee, your brain will be picked bone dry before they toss you out. If you manage to learn your way to maneuver around the politics of a Chinese company, you might get somewhere. But, you have to be realistic about your chances. You are an amateur.

Anonymous131719, huawei isn't government backed company.....ZTE, spreadtrum, and to a lesser extent, xiaomi is. But Huawei is already grown up enough such that the government isn't backing them financially. There's probably hooks in their networking equipment to allows their government to eavesdrop, but I'm pretty sure Microsoft/Cisco does the same thing to allow or CIA/NSA to do the same thing....

Huawei copied the Cisco router so well they had the same typos in the craft interface. Gotta love the Chinese. If they can't build it, copy it. Buy time to bring in companies via coercion to get into the Chinese markets. Then cut them off, open up a company that makes shockingly similar products and pocket all the money.

Don't like it? Sue in Chinese court. Oh so sorry........ you lose.

@131700: Yes, every Asian company copied, but Huawei is not your typical copy cat. It is one of the most sophisticated copy cat, maybe it should be call copy tiger. No other Asian companies (outside of China) have the backing of military hacking specialist. So, with government backed finance and hacking, Huawei became the fastest growing tech company in the world. The threat level has probably reached national security.

Huawei is copycat company. I don’t mean the old fashion Chinese pirating. It is very sophisticated, through hiring key employees (Chinese of course), employee download, and hacking. The hacking part is most amazing, where Huawei has support of military specialists. Huawei exec’s are all ex-military. Yes, Cisco would have been finished without protection of US laws.

...You'll also be able to find out when the next Nexus 6 comes out. It probably won't be that good since it will be the first time they are trying to make worldwide higher end phone. But who knows, we might be pleasantly surprised...

Well, #1 in networking worldwide, ahead of Cisco Systems and Ericsson and Nokia. If it wasn't for the unofficial ban of their equipment in the U.S., Cisco would be dead. They have a lot of money, and they will be a big threat to Samsung moving forward. They aren't nearly as vertical as Samsung is nor will they ever be. (Samsung provides probably close to 60-70% of the components that goes into most mid-tier to higher end phone). That said, they will give Samsung a good run, and probably the only other company that is a credible threat to Samsung. All the other OEMs (with the exception of Apple) aren't even close. HTC(taiwanese) is on life support, their volume fell off the cliff, ZTE and Xiaomi had a good run but they are losing market share to Huawei. Interest tidbit, is all the other OEMs are not trying to count on Samsung if they can help it. That's why Huawei is building their own app/modem. The fear is if there is ever a supply shortage at Samsung, they would screw over everyone else to ensure there was enough supply for their own phones. It happened to HTC when there was a supply issue with the AMOLED screens, and Samsung ended up allocating the screens for their own phones first....
