Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Technical Exit Query

Suppose Target gets me laid off on 31-Aug-2015 (Monday). I get an offer in some other company to join on 14-Sep-2015 (Monday). Since I will not be telling my new company that i have been laid off, I would be needing a relieving letter dated either 11-Sep-2015 or before. Would Target HR oblige?

Note: Apparently, you continue to be on Target rolls for 2 months from the date of layoff. Hence, the above query.

Hi, I think they oblige. Also, that should not hirt your severance package. Notice period and severance package are two separate things. Also, you may be asked to serve the notice pwriod actually not working, but.sitting at home searching for jobs.

If you are offered severance because your position was eliminated, you should get your 2-3 months (whatever you get) and be let go. If you find a job next day, it is not of Target's business. Target should give you the severance check right before you get out the door and if you get an offer of employment the next morning, it is Target's crap and your lucky week. What do you mean Target would oblige? I would make them accountable to give me every penny of my severance and make them understand that if I am so good at my job that I can get a job next morning, it's not their business anymore. Stupid policy from a sinking ship.

130237 if the OP is from TI and works in India, in my opinion being upfront about layoff could impact his employment more than hiding in India. This I am saying from my good friend experience who was let go couple of months back from target and had situations where the potential employers took his situation Due to his capability more than targets issue, some took advantage of his situation and where negotiating less

Salary.

If you were to request that you would forego your severance. As part of mine, they technically could have recalled me any time during that two month period. Also FWIW, I was completely upfront with my new employer about being laid off. It's all about how you spin it. But, hiding that fact may disrupt your employment opportunities more than you think.
