Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

In late 2014, China stated they want to end the use of foreign technology in the primary sectors by 2020, including wireless/telco/networking

With 50% of qualcomm's revenue coming from China, that's going to hurt. Why do you think the government there is throwing money at domestic companies like Spreadtrum, Huawei, ZTE, etc for R&D and encouraging foreign companies like Qualcomm to set up research and development centers there. It's all part of the plan to become self-reliant. And U.S. companies like Qualcomm are chumps just playing to that plan. Getting laid off now isn't a bad thing. I don't think you want to be in the chip business or this company long term anyway, with the direction its headed.
