Dumb move offshoring new design work. You reap what you sow QC.

If 64 bit is all hype, wouldn't it be obvious in the benchmarks ?

Why would management also not spin a non64bit part and derisk, instead of the going with 64 bit, and having the thermal issues ?

The best parts NEVER started in Raleigh. That is why the company is in this mess. Scorpion, Krait, Hydra - All over-hyped, nothing better than an off the shelf ARM. The benchmarks by QCOM RTP are cooked and never match up with outside, independent, benchmarking. Raleigh has for a long time been one of the worst organizations to collaborate with - constantly late, constantly underhanded, constantly trying to justify their existence by reproducing what another group is doing perfectly well and then imposing it on the rest of the design teams. Sartorius does the power grab by moving every part of the rest of the design into the ARM standard, then saying anything that is in the ARM standard has do be done by RTP, who will then screw it up because it's too damn complex for the real world. Testitorre and Mansour have been battling it out for design control at the expense of the company for years, and nobody stops them because it's political suicide. Even Murthy and Thompson won't (or don't want to be bothered) touching that issue, despite of consistent quality and overrun issues because of RTP's consistent failures. Getting rid of RTP would save much more than the salaries and real estate - it would save the company the cost of the corruption and inefficiencies they bring to everything they touch.

Why would they have a "gimmick" ready? It was a classic case where the market (apple) didn't obey qcom projections

Dont give me that RTP baloney; if they'd done their job and had 64-bit ready to go when needed there would have been no need to go elsewhere.

That was the final straw....sending an important design OFFSHORE. What a terrible move

Because the offshore team was so successful with the 8916. All sarcasm intended. The best parts have always started in Raleigh, first scorpion, Kraft and soon next gen other markets.
