Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Maybe Target DevOps isn't all it's says it is?

I am looking to join one of the many teams claiming DevOps at TTS. Looking at some recent previous posts, it appears everyone is not impressed with how it's doing. Calling it DevOOps and poking fun of the culture of MacBooks, stickers, and t-shirts. I have met RC and HM at various DevOps conferences, and they say devops is the future, anyone not onboard is getting pushed out.

Then to see all the leadership blasting firing, it seems the inmates are running the prison. Will Devops prevail? Maybe I'll go to best buy, not as much bad press.

Last post sounds like a worthless SGM in the devops inner circle. The devops Culture is ok if you are the one doing the stealing, lying, backstabbing , but results are total fabricated lies! How has devops helped target TTS to help the business? The business is failing, Devops is a waste! If you are a real devops believer, MSP has tons of companies doing way better!

OP, the new CIO sent out an email this morning saying we'll be transforming soon. Here's a relevant excerpt: "Our new organization will be based on agile scrum and DevOps." That doesn't leave much room for interpretation if you ask me. All of those doing the naysaying on this site are probably concerned that they'll actually have to learn something new and do some real work in the near future. Believe me, if you're looking for a DevOps focused environment you'll be able to find it here, and it's awesome!

  • Not the place to ask - Given the DevOOPS clowns will stab their own team members in the back, I am not sure if bringing morality, integrity and ethics into this argument is to your best interest. Don't forget the countless power grabs by manager to steal ideas and shift talent.

  • Not the place to ask - I worked at Target for a decade until a few years back when I saw the light and decided to leave. TTS is anything but a shining example of moral integrity. Direct and meaningful conversation about how to make things better are not encouraged, never have been.

The facts remain that I would recommend putting target at the bottom of your list of perspective employers

Um, I think that the ask is in the right place. AdevopsDood said he talked to Target DevOps people who made big claims. Then checking here where nameless Targeteers post opinions about leadership and an alternate view of DevOops, seems like he is doing his homework. He is basically asking if he should go work at TTS.

Thanks for the stupid analogy and for all your fancy words and judgement, you must be one of the DevOps leaders, you certainly sound like it!

Asking about DevOps on this board is like asking your kids if they'd like to try something other than their favorite snack for once. They not only refuse to check it out but run around squawking, dissing those who are trying to taste and do something different. Simple truth is if you want to learn about DevOps at Target, talk to folks in those roles who are active members in the local DevOps Minneapolis community. When posters here start getting into ad hominem comments about others under the guise of anonymity you should immediately deduct several points for veracity and integrity. its sad these people lack the moral integrity to have direct, meaningful conversations on their concerns to make things better or do one better and leave

DevOps will fade like everything else at target. They can't focus long enough to be successful at anything.

Adevopsd00d don't listen to these morons. Devops is the only thing alive in TTS. Because we make AWESOME happen and leadership is completely behind us.

We will get rid of anything, solutions (big vendor crap software), people (they know who they are), process (ITIL) that don't enable the DevOps culture! Come work for the revolution!

I thought the DevOOPSers were putting Chef on Windows and rewriting Powershell into Ruby?

They've been talking about taking bladelogic and sccm out for years. But bladelogic is used pretty heavily still, security, SSD teams. Not sure how they would replace, and sccm does all the wintel stuff, software package and deploy and patch and I don't see that going anywhere. What are they going to replace with, 100 opensource tools? I'm sure CIO will love to add more products to the list!

Wasn't Bladelogic being pulled out?

I did the original post. So I think it's safe to say that DevOps is more devOops for Target? Thanks for the warnings on working at Target! Btw, I work for an big bank and we use bladelogic. Everyone loves it and we integrate it to execute our CD and CR and is big part of our DevOps success. What does TArget use it for?

Anonymous128622 Hahaha! I've eaten there. Before I knew it was his place cause there ain't shit for restaurants in BP. I gave bad review on yelp. Then when I got back to work that afternoon, I was in a meeting with RC and he asked me where I ate and I said some shithole down the road called __, I'll never be back. I could have swore he turned red. Once I figured it out, I felt awesome.

RC=>most arrogant SGM in TTS. He goes unchallenged on everything. Telling lies to ever one else about Target success with DevOps. Just a bunch of script kiddies on his team who buddy with other script kiddies on other teams and belittle anyone who isn't in their script kiddie gang. Glad I'm working elsewhere!

Is it double dipping when you build your restaurant near your other place of employment and then tell everyone to eat lunch there?

RC and the devoopsers have my team forced to look at garbage opensource monitoring tools. Saying it will make AWESOME. So for the last few weeks we have to write scripts and commands to gather performance data on basic things which we've been doing for ever already. It's like we're taking a giant leap back into 1999! I estimate we'll be back at the level we're already at in 3-5 years. And I didn't get a t-shirt.

RC also sold Target on BladeLogic at one point too! Most people could not understand how to use it or automate with. It became another white elephant in the room.

The only thing the DevOOPs clowns accomplish is flying around the country presenting to other opensource purists about how Target TTS does AWESOME, sticker collecting, endless mind numbing meetings, BloJo sessions. They have very little to show for all their waste. At least when they are all let go they will get paid speaker gigs to retell the lies.

Devops works when you have passionate people working on things they really understand and want to make better. It is DevOOPS when you have people who could care less about what they are working on, are clueless technically and are only in it to pad their wallet and reputation. Folks on this board, you decide which way are things headed?

Why in god's name would you consider coming to target now... unless you feed off of uncertainty, tension and upheaval go elsewhere. If instead you are Professor Chaos (sidekick General Disarray sold separately) then you found your element in the current state of tts.
