Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

Just breathe!

I have been working for NOV for 10 years...I have been happy and sometimes unhappy with my job. At the end of the day though, I feel like they have treated us well. It's not NOV's fault the oil industry is in trouble. Do you people really expect any business to keep their employees when they are losing money. I may be one of them that gets laid off Monday. It may hurt....but I feel that they have been good and fair to us. Yes, NOV might lose some good people...but there isn't anything that can be done about that. I am sad that this is all happening. Just remember Jehovah Jireh. The Lord will provide and He is sovereign. Maybe, just maybe He wants some of us to bloom somewhere else. He may also want you to lean on Him. God Bless You All.

My turn....What about the part where the poster 'Jesus is my king' says, ..........."On some post people are dogging NOV...but don't bite the hand that has fed you."

Keep your opinions to yourself. Mind your own business and work with your hands. Stop letting your emotions rule you. Be willing to keep quiet sometimes and say nothing to avoid strife. You don't always have to have the last word and don't be easily offended. If you'd study your bible you'd know you're suppose to pray for people. Your thoughts are not higher than GODs. Telling people not to bite the hand that has fed you is disturbing. That idiom comes from the world and not found in scripture. Christians who are followers of Jesus Christ allow go to GOD for wisdom and knowledge. NOV is not our provider. GOD is the one who provides through others. He owns everything in this Universe including NOV. Do you actually believe you'll make an impact on people with that nonsense? If you're going to use the name of Jesus publicly in order to preach something, please, please, please, go to GOD and get some wisdom from GOD first....pray, read your bible, meditate on scripture and pray some more before you even attempt doing something like that again. Study and meditate on scriptures concerning humility, self-righteous versus godly righteousness, self-control, peace, love and GOD's will for your life.

Allow Jehova Shalom the GOD of peace to rule in your heart. Jehova Tsaba LORD of hosts. Nothing is to big for El Shaddi the Almight One! He provides grace, forgiveness, mercy, strength, finances, hope, wisdom, jobs, relationships..........

My response to 'Jesus is My King' Acknowledging Jesus is admirable, however, you contradicted yourself in several comments. If you're a believer and if you studied your bible you'd know you don't follow the ways of the world. Even though you might have meant well, you still sound foolish. You make assumptions. You boast. You argue. You're prideful and follow up with saying good luck. Luck has nothing to do with anything. You can't serve two masters. You either serve one or the other. All those things you sad are contradictory to what the Word says. Christians who are followers of Jesus Christ do not behave nor speak that way. Please pick up a bible and take some time to read scriptures on love, pride, boasting, superstitious, humility, worry, fear and arrogance. God's Word searches our hearts. It's truth, it corrects and it teaches.

Good Lord.....If we don't get it then why do you keep wasting your time? You can't force anyone to see things your way. Maybe you're the one who doesn't get it. Take your own advice.....JUST BREATHE!!! BREATHE!!! Tell yourself life goes on and you will be ok. Let it go already.

SMH...you just don't get it but that is ok. It's not like I might not lose my job. Just trying to be positive and not negative...it's out of our control anyway. Life goes on and you will be ok.

Just breathe? We are breathing. It's not like we are holding our breath to set some record. No one cares how long you've been with NOV. We get it. We get it. You started a thread as an opportunity to talk about yourself with all your I's and me's. Enough already. Take your bragging elsewhere. If you're really thankful and Jesus is really your king then give your job to someone who's been looking for work for quite sometime & about to lose their home or someone who just lost their job & is the sole provider with an entire family & spouse who's been diagnosed with cancer and about to die. Shame on you for telling people who lost their jobs that they should be thankful. How do you know they are or weren't already thankful. You don't what people are going through or what their situation is so stop your bellyaching and get over yourself.

Well, I am thankful that God gave me the opportunity to work for NOV. I am not saying you have to feel the same way. I am thankful of all that I learned. I got to support myself and my kids. God's is in control. If it is my time to move on...then it just is. I wish you all the best of luck tjis week and in your future endeavors. Some don't like what I have to say obviously. That's ok though. We are all free to our opinions. GOD Bless!

Those who weren't laid off will be replaced. In time. No job is guaranteed not even if you're self employed.

I'm thankful my situation happened early on. I wasn't at the time, of course. Some of the work environments I've heard described mention that some are scared each day they show up will be their last. I'm glad I missed all that!

Anonymous115908 nailed it. Thank you. People take things personal because they've got themselves on their mind 24/7 or guilty. Those people like telling others to be thankful and what not. How do know they aren't already thankful. I'd say ....get yourself off your mind and go out and help someone in need instead of telling people to be thankful. You just might learn a thing or two in humility. If not, God might have to step in and show you HE is GOD & teach you how to humble yourself.

I think the gripe with NOV is a lack of transparency . Unlike the competitors referenced before (bakers, Schlumberger, etc) there's been no transparency or communication and the employees feel and DO deserve better than that.

The truth hurts but you're barking up the wrong tree. Then go tell those people. May help you feel better. Stop pretending to be psychic telling people to be thankful. Practice what you preach. You can't change people, the only one you can change is yourself.

On some post people are dogging NOV...and that will not help anything. Be thankful you had a job for however long you did. Reporting the layoffs is fine...but don't bite the hand that has fed you.

Uumm no one is bad mouthing NOV. Does anyone know how to read? Possibly need a class in reading comprehension? It's simple. Geez people this a public forum and this public forum is about LAYOFFS. Please people refer back to the top where it says, NATIONAL OILWELL VARCO INC. LAYOFFS! Just because someone mentions who what and where the excess dead weight is within your company, don't take it personal.

When a bird is alive it eats ants. When the bird has died ants eat it. One tree can be made into a million matchsticks but only one match is needed to burn a million trees! Circumstances can change at any time. Don't devalue or hurt anyone in this life. You may be powerful today but time is more powerful than you!

Wait Wait your preaching sounds like a Sunday church service. It's been a long time since I've been to church. Thanks for reminding me that I need to go back to church and need to stop all the office gossp'g and chaos and strife between employees.

I agree totally. The oil field is up and down. People are taking it personally. It's not personal, it's business. I don't think they enjoy laying off a bunch of their employees. I think they would much rather have NOV's business to be booming. Right now, no oil company is doing great. We all have families to feed. I pray for each one of you guys. I just don't think it's right to badmouth this company like many are. One day the oil industry will be good again. Just figure out what you need to do to survive and make a living. You may come back to this industry and you may not. Our God works in mysterious ways. God Bless.

I agree with Just Breath. I've been in the oil field since 1979 and seen many lay offs in my day. I've work with many companies mostly mom and pops and NOV has been the best company I've work for. There great in so many areas. Never had such great support as what they supply. Always there to support me in any problem that arrives in the field. Hang in there guys it will come back around it always does. God Bless trust in the Lord God
