You're right. NOV dismisses you on Monday's or Tuesday's. Seriously though, who in their right mind would go back to shoot up the place regardless if it was Friday, Monday, or any other day? It doesn't make sense. It's just not worth it. I was laid off and not once did it cross my mind to come back and cause harm. I was sad but at the time glad to get the heck out of there. Having to deal with an insecure incompetent arrogant manager who's a covert narcissist and a pathological liar with the sole intention on hurting people is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.
There are better jobs out there. It's not like NOV's the only employer in the world. As for that manager, well let's just say as I'm enjoying my life and already moved on, karma will be serving up a big doses of what she dished out. I will miss all you who were kind to me. You meant a lot to me. As for those who became my friends and close buddies, we'll stay in touch. Good luck to the rest of you.
This is not a joke . . .dead serious here. NOV picks Mondays because they think that psychologically you are less likely to return to work and threaten, cause problems or even worse shoot up the place. If they do it on Fridays you have the weekend to simmer on the lay off and be completely pissed off come Monday and cause mayhem. That and having a clean payroll helps too. By their logic you can't come back on Wednesday or Thursday do it. Personally I'd prefer to get it on Thursday or Friday particularly if I am unaware they are coming (which would seem unlikely today). At least I won't make a purchase over the weekend I could regret on Monday but like many of the decisions NOV makes what works on the ground level is blind to those in the ivory tower whether it's a lay off or actually how to do a job.
Trimming all the excess fat. For those who'll be left, you will be replaced. GE is the future.
OMG could you like do it on A Thursday or Friday, why Monday! Drinking my paycheck away can only be justified for weekends, not week days!
