imho,Qualcomm may be low margin cpu chip design house for samsung going fwd. As high margin cellular chip business came to sudden halt...all creamy profit evaporated overnight ( i.e in 3 Q's ). Gas guzzling QCT is running out of gas and need a re-haul to improve efficiency...welcome to reality.
Anonymous127396, Previously, samsung didn't use their own in house solution completely because there was still a noticeable performance difference. Not so much moving forward.
It should be noted that Samsung itself has problem in that their S6 sales fell short. Looks like high end, Apple is taking away market share.
This doesn't mean Samsung will continue to use its own chips forever. According to a person familiar with the situation who declined to be identified, Samsung has a long-lasting, strategic relationship with Qualcomm and it's unlikely it will entirely drop its partnership. Also, Samsung's mobile group doesn't give any favorable treatment to its in-house chip unit, as evidenced by its previous models that used Qualcomm chips instead.
yeah samsung is not going to come back to Qualcomm in future.... samsung semiconductors made $1.3 billion and Qualcomm is cutting down $1.4 billion in layoffs..... striking correlation........
moreover with things happening with CPU team in qualcomm....qualcomm is gearing towards making mid and low tier CPU's in future so automatically Qualcomm will not be used for high end phones in Samsung..... all in all ....snapdragon top tier is over and so is Samsung galaxy flagship are done as far as qualcomm is concerned..
