Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Looks like low performer will go first but how the hell you will decide who is low performer when the review system is so bad.

when the criteria is to give 3, 3, 3.5, 3.5, 4, 4 and 4.5 and then go back to 3 after promotion? of course with slight variation based on the position (lower position get promoted fast and have accelerated rating), personal preference/grudge. management say they can't give accelerated rating even if you do extra ordinary. they can't give you worse rating, they can't give you better rating. thats how HR asked to rate. so how the hell you can decide who is good and who is bad. And thats the problem also as the review system makes everyone look same.

The performance ratings at Qualcomm basically follow this formula. Managers pet get higher scores then those who are not necessarily the managers pet. The manager may like them non-pet but the pet especially the one who invites their entire management team to their house for parties is definitely going to take precedence. Not only will this person get a higher score, this person will be able to more or less be given a free pass. The managers pet will get the non manager's pet's bonuses, RSUs and generally will have the final decision on whether the non managers pet goes or not. Not only that but the manager pet will tend to make the non managers pet live a miserable life. Mainly consisting of bullying and outright defamation of character. In a nutshell, that's how reviews work at Qualcomm. JANA Partners, feel free to take a note of that and investors as well.

You won't seem managers posting on this site unless they are the sort who enjoyed poking their pets with sharp sticks when they were kids.

This is how I have seen ratings being given and told and this is how also some other people on this site posted. so i think this is norm of the company.. let me know Anon560 if you see different kind of rating in your dept.

Is this a usual review cycle? Are they going to use this to lay off people and in parallel rank and rate employees, promote etc?

Can managers provide some clarity?
