Eventually competitors will catch up. There isn't much of a change in the horizon after LTE for wireless technology so even baseband processors will become susceptible to competition. There were quite a few wireless tech companies in San Diego at one point, but one by one they've failed to keep up with trends and folded. Not to mention most of the tech in San Diego was related to consumer hardware design and most of that has moved offshore. BTW if you want to look at successful companies like LG, Samsung and HTC, Sony to name a few.... they are not based in liberal countries... some people can't separate politics from reality...

Keep it real. LGE, HTC, ZTE, Xiaomi, Motorola, even Samsung. Nothing has changed. These peeps and more will still use Snapdragon, etc..
What happened was that over a decade we had hired some bloat and so we need to trim some fat. Agility is a good thing. Comes after trimming fat. Good peeps but you know life is a bitch so we have to say bye to some of them.
What happened was that Qualcomm has one of the lowest attrition in technology. So we had no choice. It has lowest attrition because:

San Diego never could become the tech hub it should have to enable career changes. I'll give you a small glimpse why (appendix 1). Although this in of itself is a thesis paper (poly sci students?)

The conservative shithole San Diego generally attracted thick people in non-Qualcomm places. Here's what conservative do:
"yabba dabba usa. yabba dabba terrorist. yabba dabba bush. yabba dabba i love whities. yabba dabba ya i will spend 2 hours daily flying flag of usa...ya". These peeps are not productive. They are all talk and no work. Irony is these peeps hurt usa the most. Is it low iq that drifts peeps into conservative bs or vice versa I don't know.
All I know is that smart CEOs/business peeps do not want to move here or such places since conservatives are just not productive workers.
