123921 makes a good point. There has always been a major disconnect between marketing guys and engineers. Say you build a better device to monitor body functions: Heart rate, pulse, bp, etc. assume that unlike those other competing wristbands, this one can also monitor blood sugar via sweat. Who do you market it to? Do you want it to be a medical device available by prescription or a "popular" product available OTC? Does your company understand the potential profitability models in both areas? Don't forget, your QCOM prescription plan carve out agreement is not only a cost to the company, but provides a revenue stream, as well.

The only companies making money on IoT is device makers... Chipsets are cheap and its over.

you can find the goldmine but you still need to figure out how to get the gold. Friendster and Myspace found the goldmine.

Everyone knows its IoT, but no one has yet figured out how to profit from it. QC has so much cash, and if put 100M bonus for execs into a few IoT projects it was bound to find the gold mine in IoT. But they are small minded so here comes the layoffs...

Data Center has a lot of competition. Intel being at the top. I do not think QC will be able to compete well with Intel in this area.

IoT hype is like "e-commerce" in 1997. Somebody will make money, but who? And how?

I remember not too long ago ( less than year after) in one of AH SM made comment along this line "Every one hyping IoT but I really don't understand what actually IoT means "( should be in one of AH video recording) -:)

Yes it does. I know you hit the crapper while your toaster is on and use your mobile in your crapper. Heaven knows you take big dumps.

Wouldnt you want the toaster to post to Twitter when it is done so you can cleanup and run back to your kitchen.

Does your toaster really need its own twitter feed?
