Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

What should rating I rate myself (or try to receive from my manager) this review cycle to ensure I get a GTFO package but not PIP'd?

This next review cycle will be brutal, and we will be walking a fine line between getting a GTFO package or getting PIP'd. Do you think that getting a 3 this cycle will get you PIP'd? Would a 4 be sufficient to get a GTFO package? One data point I have is that my friend was let go with a GTFO package during the 12/10/2014 layoff, and he gave himself a justified 3 rating during the fall review cycle. This time however, since they will need to save some money by not giving out so many GTFO packages, it's more likely that they take the PIP route. So right now I'm thinking a 4 should get me the GTFO package. What do you guys think? I can't be the only one who is trying to compete for a package.

If you want the package, I think it would be best to meet with your boss and tell him. I would tell him that if he needs to make decisions on which employees should be let go and given the package, that you hope he'll consider putting you on that list. Your boss probably does not look forward to laying people off who want the job. He may find it a relief, if some of the employees go to him and basically say "choose me". Don't resign (or quit). Just tell him that if someone needs to be laid off and given the package, you would be fine with it. A direct approach might be better and more clear, than some kind of online self rating.

Most of the PIP's are BS! If your Manager wants to they can give you a Poor Performance review and then put you on a PIP. Qualcomm always claimed ethics drove the company- now it is all about money and ethics takes a back seat.

This time, it will be the difference between getting PIP'd or getting a GTFO package. 3 is just meeting the minimum requirements of the job. 4 is showing at least some level of going beyond the requirements, but guidance is still needed.
