Good summary Anonymous122655. Easy to tear apart than build!
Stick a fork in it.
IDCC does fine.
I for one don't see the prospect of QTL spin off surviving more than 4 years. Not everyone'll be able to pull off an ARM model. Look at Rambus, it tried to push and enforce its patent without a market position or someone able to execute its standards and patents into high profit sockets. The players just bypassed Rambus and went with something perhaps not as advanced but good enough. Then Rambus spent their entire energy suing the industry while getting peanuts in return for decades of litigation cost. This is what could very well happen to QTL if it stands alone and starts to push out ideas and techs in paper.
QCT will get bought by someone like intel, stripped down to the IP and core modem teams. It will spell an end to qcom as well as investment opportunities, but JANA would have sold on profit ready to mess with the next company.
