Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

One lesson for all

Never be flaky, do your best, be nice and constructive, be fair, provide feedback, never stop learning. When a time like this comes (more and more often across all industrirs) you'll be sorry you didn't. And, as most of you have equity in the company, have a sense of ownership not just family, and treat it as an investor. If people waste your time, do sub-par work, or you see obvious decision mistakes, talk or act on them and don't be affraid. Also understand a bit the business, markets and future outlook. Last, be very careful how you use the most precious resource you'll ever have: your time.

@122536: QC management is not getting the kick. Employees are getting shafted. Senior management is trying to protect their stake in the company, by holding up the stock price. What is good for the shareholder is good for the senior management, and so, lowly employees are screwed no matter what.

@Anonymous122536: I'm with you. Before this started happening I was about to walk away, but now I will just wait a bit to see how fair and transparent this process is. I have in mind 100% candidates for the door. If I see them around after this, I'm out.

Trite but sincere advice. I can tell you as a long time past QC'er that "If people waste your time, do sub-par work, or you see obvious decision mistakes, talk or act on them and don't be affraid (sic)" stopped working at that company. So much so that I got up and left a while ago because I felt like the place was going to crash at some point and now, with some degree of schadenfreude, I feel vindicated. Things just got too out of hand and management was just unable or unwilling to correct things. When I went to senior management with ideas to change things up, I was specifically told "..thats not our corporate culture". So f*ck it, let them have it the way the want it and long ago found a better place to work, and now predictably, it went down the crapper. Well, IMHO, the really needed this kick in the ass to wake up.

Anonymous122444, all this would work at a normal company. Lately success at QC has not been based on what you know but who you know. Feedback from leads and managers have been ignored and reviews have been heavily influenced by senior people who do not have direct exposure to the people being reviewed.

What a positive spin in the wake of such a horrible tragedy. Let them eat cake! Get in, the water is just D-I-V-I-N-E.

And don't forget to feed your coworkers to the Sharks. Remember, the last one to be eaten wins. So start playing the politics and pushing all these mother f** around you out the door.
