Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Interview experience post ISP

Have my fellow ¨Intel Eliminatis¨ started looking for another job? What has been your experience with the search so far? Have you heard/felt any disgust/negative feeling coming from hiring managers? I understand that we are all very angry with this action but we still have to find a way to pay our bills and take care of families. It will be nice to hear from fellow folks what their experience (negative/positive) has been with their job search.

I read other threads which are so demotivating that we will never get another job that because one asshole CEO just branded us to the world that we are useless piece of sh*(.

Please update the threads with your experiences and help others get over this tough time and move on. On a personal note, I havent yet started looking, but will update the thread when I do so.

Applied to Micron well before layoff in Folsom, no response. No other action from other local employers since. Thank you BK for slimming us all.

Samsung Austin Fab is hiring. Far from an ideal place for sure, but:

HR doesn't think ISP people are low performers

Result oriented, focused 100% on business.

Pay and benefits are better than Intel

Austin is way nicer than Phoenix

Check their Web for opens, read glassdoor, decide for yourself.

Somewhat tragic that slander from a CEO without one single sucess at the helm (at all), weighs higher than the track records of folks laid off because they predominantly happened to be white males over 40. 80% of ISP victims were 40+. The ISP had nothing whatsoever to do with low performance, there are lots of other ways to address that.

You are blacklisted if on ISP, but if you are black, you are on Intel's PHP (Preferential Hiring Package).

You have been blacklisted due to BKs comments about being Low performers. If your termination date is in July 2015 we know this and will not hire you. Sorry but we don't want to take the risk when there are others out there to choose from.

Come on people! There is no reason to be mean. This is a very traumatic experience and those involved do not need your snarky responses. Your comments are not as funny and clever as you think they are.

For what it's worth, here is my advice. Be honest in your interviews. Calmly and matter of factly explain the situation. You had no idea your performance was below par. Offer to provide, or have with you, your focal letters for the past few years which "congratulate" you on your successful performance for the past year. No where in the letter does it say successful is not good enough.

As far as the stock awards indicating your "real" performance? Again, be honest. Explain you weren't concerned because your manager never indicated the award was tied to your performance. Plus, Intel stock has been flat for over a decade so who cares about the RSUs anyway? Especially if you were given the option for more cash over stock. If you were already at the top of your pay grade, point that out. Focal budgets only go so far and if you are at the top of your grade, and you're not getting promoted, then how much more could they give you? Which is why you were totally blindsided by the whole thing. But, now that it happened, it is time to move on and bring your years of experience, your loyalty and dedication, to your new position.

Be positive. Be confident. I know after what has happened that won't be easy but that is what will get you hired. Best of luck.

I was informed of the ISP on 6/15 and began contacting recruiters in my LinkedIn network immediately. There was a lot of interest from the Apple recruiters to fill positions in Austin, but after a week or two all their hiring managers suddenly lost all interest and the recruiters never received a good explanation as to why (they actually got pretty frustrated on my behalf).

The jobs are out there, especially if you're willing to relocate.

I called some contacts at Apple and was disappointed to hear that even the perceptions from former Intel people at Apple is that current ISP folks are underperformers.

I had an interview yesterday and the hiring manager spent time on why I was laid off at Intel, was I laid off due to poor performance, and I needed 4 management reference to prove I was a 'successful' employee who was laid off.

Anonymous122666 dd you apply at Apple or did an Apple contact gave you this information. IF someone who got ISP applied at AAPL what was the reaction they got? What are the options available for someone in Folsom? There were 152 people affected in Folsom. Considering that only Micron is a major other employer has someone applied there?

I was laid off on June 15th and had a verbal offer on June 19th. I called up all my contacts and one of them hired me as soon as he found out I was available. All I can advice you is be aggressive, forget about freaking Intel and use your contacts. Sending out resume and competing with 30 yr old's will be tough. Good luck all. This is not the end of the world. I be making few thousand more in the new job with better benefits, small company size will help as they wont have 500 people planning out lay offs for older employees. oh, they let me put in 15% toward the SPP. Screw BK.

If you are a hiring company and don't consider hiring ex-Intel folks, you are narrow-minded and probably a bad employer anyhow. It's best for folks to stay away from your company.

If our reputation has been tainted due to the words from BK that the layoffs are results of "Poor Performers" then that is illegal and subject to legal action - slander-. I see a huge lawsuit in the wings.

The dust will settle

When they ask why you left you can say you had a family emergency and took the. Vsp voluntary separation package to deal with it. Update resume to say you worked through april

Have a canned answer what it was or say its private they are not allowed to ask about private family matters

Intel is not allowed to say why you were terminated be clever about it and put food on your table.

Or go the contractor route

I'm not a former Intel employee, but I am a former Qualcomm employee. I found work easily by becoming a contractor/consultant. I think this type of work could apply to some of Intel folks as well. My hourly rate is higher than my hourly rate from Qualcomm. I do get some benefits, medical/dental/vision/prescription drug etc. I get paid for every hour I work (unlike when I worked at Qualcomm - often 50+ hours/week). No vacation pay or sick pay though. I think it is a good way to get into another company where both the employee and the employer get to evaluate each other for a period of time.

I've been interviewed twice, not sure why, both employers asked if I was a "poor performer". They admitted our reputation has been damaged.
