Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Why is Qualcomm's Stock Falling?

This gravy train got gift of explosive smartphone growth for last 6+ year (iPhone triggered?) and it's then (degraded but still largely same) patent revenue framework which good Xmas gift of exploding ASP and volume while its management projected much much less growth based on anticipation of depreciating ASP but increasing volume. Management did excellent job of realizing and exploiting this golden opportunity to monetize it's IP portfolio and expanded in to AP market..Company had smart, hardworking, honest, excited, motivated engineering team so it executed well, this all generated tons of cash which flowed down the system and corrupted Q innovation machine....folks got cozy, fat, lazy and started enjoying their luck assuming this is the norm going forward, became power hungry, politics started, business conditions changed, Android, WP, QNX did not perform as per expectation...company suddenly start moving towards legally challenged revenue stream attacked from all direction, Army of low quality hires due to anticipated continued growth projected by biz folks for growth in AP, execution systems laden with redundancies, wall street attention...pressure to meet financials projections...blah..blah.. as a Investor it does make sense to get rid of low/no margin silicon production business and focus company's capital/energy towards high value IP creation and I like my board of directors implement it as smoothly and as efficiently possible to maximize return of capital I have invested in this business else I will look for better place for my hard earned money... It is very simple...

Why you gotta be so right?

It's been fun, but coming from a startup it's amazing how spoiled QC employees are, and how much they demand for new scopes, compilers, and software licenses.

These young kids are in for a big surprise in their next job when they ask for a $2000 piece of test equipment.
