Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Some inside info from HR: We are doing this only to whip everyone back into shape out of fear for being let go....

...but there won't actually be a RIF. Just need everyone to work hard as we enter new, high growth areas. Great talent takes a long time to build, and it'd be extremely short sighted to get rid of people and then need to hire them back as we enter our next growth phase. So just pretend you're scared, and just keep working hard!!!

Sadly this once great American Dream, set forth by an amazingly astute group of people is being ran into the ground by greed. This company, once a place where you could excell with great knowledge and hard work has turned into one great American nightmare. You once worked whatever hours it took to get the job done knowing your managers would take care of you at review time. Certainly no incentive for us salaried workers if bonuses and rsu's are gone then why would you sacrifice your family time for nothing. These were the thing that kept your salaried employees at work for 10-15 hours a day and are only compensated for 8. It will be interesting to watch.

Shut your eyes and hope it goes away? Go hide under a blanket and it won't get you?

It would be a breach of fiduciary duty to lie to investors.

Most idiotic! If something has been publicly announced it is not for creating fear for getting back in shape. If lying in public worked wonders, they could have said great things to get the stock prices up.

Scare everyone to work harder ? Really ? Qualcomm is the only employer in the US...please. The reality is those with marketable skill sets will have no problem finding new employment; not because they have to, but because they want to. C-Level management lost sight of meaningful changes in the mobile marketplace and opportunities to lead in enterprise and data centers - This is the result. "restructuring", "reset"...another AMD in the making ??

How would investors and the venture capital investors react to pretending to layoff employees? How would that be explained?
