All you employees should go to the company directory and start looking at the different departments. You can export them to Excel and sort by title. You will be amazed at how top heavy the company is. Upwards of 25%-30% of quite a few divisions are Director level and above.

At our site, it seems like half the engineers are principal/senior staff.
To be fair, you need to compare it with our giant companies like Cisco, Intel, Microsoft, Intel etc.just my 2 cents, I don't expect this to be different

Would be great if Director and VP can be temporary roles that need to be renewed anually. If you don't have the responsibility to match, you fall back to your prior level or principal and work as individual contributor engineer or lead or whatever. Your pay goes back to median. If they can't compete either at Dir/VP level nor engg level, gtfo.
